Those of you who have managed to snag one of the 700 units of the now sold-out BMW M4 GTS should consider yourselves lucky. If, however, you still find Munich’s ultimate lightweight sports car somewhat lacking, then German tuner G-Power might just have the answer for you. In fact, it has already been the answer for three of those owners, who have come to the company for their extra speed fix.
G-Power’s upgrades to the 3.0 litre twin-turbo straight six – with water injection, no less – are pretty thorough. These include significantly-modified turbochargers that use larger turbine and compression wheels, designed and built in-house to move more air and reduce inertia, improving throttle response. The housings themselves have been modified through CNC machining.
A bonus side effect of the turbos’ improved overall efficiency is the reduction of exhaust gas temperatures, allowing the turbochargers themselves to run at higher boost pressures. Meanwhile, exhaust pressure has been reduced through the addition of stainless steel downpipes and the deletion of catalytic converters.
G-Power’s Bi-Tronik 2 V3 ECU upgrade has custom-mapped fuel, spark and boost curves to take full advantage of these tweaks. As a result, outputs have been boosted from an already-impressive 500 hp and 600 Nm of torque to a whopping 615 hp and 760 Nm. Using the launch control function, the 0-100 km/h sprint time has dropped from 3.8 seconds to 3.6, while the removal of the speed limiter allows the car to exceed 320 km/h.
Not inclined to subject your car to such extensive modifications? G-Power offers a simple tune-up using a Bi-Tronik 2 V2 with mapping optimisation, allowing the M4 GTS to produce 575 hp and 740 Nm. Whichever you plump for, G-Power will provide 21-inch Hurricane RR forged alloy wheels with high-performance tyres – the reduced unsprung weight results in more nimble handling.
