2017 Modenas new bike teaser – first of three models

2017 Modenas new bike teaser – first of three models

With a plan to re-enter the Malaysian market in 2017 in a big way, and re-capture market share, Modenas has teased the first of three new models, slated to launch on May 19. While details are scanty at the moment, what can be seen from the photo teased on the official Modenas Twitter account is a single-cylinder full-sized motorcycle, possibly displacing between 150 cc to 250 cc.

Liquid-cooling is apparent, from the radiator, and the bump-guard on the rear wheel indicates it will be a naked sports bike. This machine will be the first from a collaboration between Modenas and motorcycle manufacturer Baja Auto of India.

Going from the photo, we surmise this model will be closely based on the Pulsar NS200 naked street bike from Bajaj, which has seen reasonable sales success in India. Priced at 96,453 Indian rupees (RM6,507) ex-New Delhi, the Pulsar NS200 has an engine rated at 23.5 PS at 9,500 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm.

Rolling on 17-inch wheels, the Pulsar NS200 has a 280 mm-diameter disc brake in front, with a 230 mm disc at the back. Suspension is with a standard telescopic fork while the rear is propped up with a Nitrox monoshock with remote reservoir.

In India, the NS200 comes in three colour choices – Mirage White, Wild Red and Graphite Black. Another teaser from Modenas will be released later in the evening, so check back then.

If sold at the same price as sold in India then maybe it will sell.

If the price is at 96,453 Indian rupees (RM6,507) WITH GST and other taxes imposed to the bike, then Modenas would be able to re-capture market share back in Malaysia.

  • Tahniah Modenas,
Saya sentiasa menyokong anda dari belakang. Biar apa orang nak kata yang penting ia buatan Malaysia. Bajaj Auto pun bukan calang-calang pembuat motosikal.
