SPIED: Renault Megane IV on the road in Malaysia

It appears that there will soon be a new addition to the local Renault lineup – reader Amirul Shaidi has sent in photos of the latest Renault Megane IV undergoing on-road testing in Malaysia.

As with the Clio, the larger C-segment hatchback is dressed in GT form, identifiable by the more aggressive front and rear bumper designs, a rear diffuser with dual chrome exhaust exits, gunmetal 17-inch alloy wheels and darker exterior highlights, including the door mirror caps. Sports seats, blue highlights and a unique steering wheel rim are to be expected inside.

There’s no indication of what will power the Malaysian-spec Megane, but the GT is available in other markets with a choice of two petrol mills. There’s the 1.2 litre Energy TCe turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Clio GT, but it’s been boosted to 130 PS and 205 Nm of torque.

But the more powerful of the two is a 1.6 litre version that kicks out 205 PS and 280 Nm, which puts it firmly in the Volkswagen Golf GTI’s sights. Both engines are mated to a seven-speed dry Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission.

This car is simply well designed. But if Tan Chong has a way to re -badge it as a Nissan, then the sales potential will increase by at least ten fold.

If this is the GT line then it should be 1.6l engine that will be arriving here. But if Renault Malaysia was smart they should bring in the normal line paired with the 1.2l and bring the fight to the Golf and 308.

They should replace the Fluence with this Megane which looks much more handsome.

But the price of the 1.6T Megane gonna be closer to RM200k since the Clio RS (I think using the same engine but of lower tune) is already at RM170k.

They should offer both the 1.6L & the 1.2L engines for the Malaysian market..

Excellent move from Tan Chong to ramp up Renault brand presence and ultimately the sales here. And Tan Chong must also bring in the Sedan version too (with the more powerful 205bhp engine option as well for the Sedan). The new Megane will be a good European offering for the C-Segment currently being dominated here by the Big H.

The new Mégane looks very, very nice. Glad to see that Tan Chong has some plans to sell this here.

Not many Malaysians know this, but many Renault models these days have a lot of Nissan technology in them. For example, the platform for the Mégane IV is also shared with the Nissan X-Trail. Some of the engines are also from Nissan. Many of the parts and components are probably made by Nissan’s suppliers too.

TC Euro Cars should try to adapt their marketing to emphasise Nissan’s involvement in Renault… maybe they can use slogans like “French Flair, Japanese Technology”… or something similar… ?

Anyway, hope to see this Mégane on our roads. Seriously… this is one of the best looking cars ever made.

Haha I don’t trust TC they will sell it at a high price and 3 years later will sell it at 40k discount and charge a fortune for service.
