2017 KTM RC390 sports bike unveiled, 373 cc, 40hp

For 2017, KTM has updated its RC390 sports bike, with some new graphics and fairing, a bigger front brake disc and revised exhaust. This is in addition to various measures taken to make the 2017 KTM RC390 more rider-friendly, including span-adjustable levers, wider rear view mirrors and a passenger seat that does not resemble a brick, both in looks and comfort.

Now coming with ride-by-wire, the RC390’s single-cylinder, 373.2 cc liquid-cooled thumper is said to deliver smoother power via its six-speed gearbox. For Euro 4 compliance, the under-belly exhaust of the previous generation RC390 is gone, replaced by a conventional upswept exhaust on the right side.

Power for the KTM RC390 is claimed to be 40 hp at 8,250 rpm, based on the specifications for the 2016 model, and torque is rated at 32.9 Nm at 6,800 rpm. Wet weight for the RC390 is 165.3 kg, with fuel carried in a 10-litre tank.

Upgraded for better braking response is the front brake disc on the RC390 at 320 mm diameter, 20 mm larger than the previous model, with the caliper by Bybre, Brembo’s made-in-India price-point brake division. Other significant changes made to the 2017 RC390 include span-adjustable levers, something which most RC390 owners changed at the first opportunity.

No word yet from KTM Malaysia as to when the 2017 KTM RC390 sports bike will make it to our shores, but an inside source told us, “possibly, maybe, late next year.” The current model 2016 KTM RC390 retails for RM27,200, including GST, but excluding road tax, registration and insurance.

Nice bike. Wonder how the new Honda CBR 250RR would fare against it..

This bike is basically the king of sub-litre bikes.
yes its 370cc, but its a single cylinder and its power output and torque is more comparable to sub-litre bikes than 400cc bikes (twin cyl)
      the cbr250rr is a 250cc parallel twin.
the rc390 is prone to vibration, but it has a higher horsepower and torque at a lower rpm than the cbr250rr.
imo the rc390 is a better bike as its cheaper and also more powerful and lighter by 2kgs, but the cost advantage is nullified by the need to get a B1 or full B license.

It’s not about being handed on a silver platter. Like I asked you before- how in God’s name does Iron 883 go from USD 11K (sticker price that includes dealer margin + registration + taxes) to RM89K showroom price?

  • KTM malaysia’s release cycle has been a disappointment. We’re still selling the old 690, and now these 390 looks to be yet another 1-2 years later.

Rc390 got 40 ponnies but capped top speed. Better buy cheaper r25 or ninja 250 with 17l oil tank. The bmw 310r (which also have capped top speed at 145kmh while being a 300+cc) is much more smoother and refined engine.

Should’ve named it RC373, that 390 moniker is misleading.
