Love him or hate him, Lewis Hamilton is now a four-time Formula 1 world champion, winning the 2017 title with the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team. The Briton joins an elite group of just five men to have won the title four times: Michael Schumacher (seven championship titles), Juan Manuel Fangio (five), Alain Prost (four), Sebastian Vettel (four) and now, Hamilton.

An all-time great? The stats surely suggests so. The Briton, now 32 years old, in his 11th F1 season, has so far amassed 62 race wins (second all-time high, behind Schumacher with 91) and 72 pole positions (record highest, and counting) from 206 starts. He also has 116 podium finishes, 38 fastest laps and 2,580 championship points to his name.

Given another run of success over the next few years, he could even surpass the great Schumi in total number of championships and wins. Looking at his current form, who’s to say he can’t? Besides, if not bad luck and/or silly mistakes, he’d have six titles today already, counting his near misses in 2007 and 2016.

So, dear readers, what do you think of Lewis Hamilton’s achievements – is he a living legend, or just a lucky driver blessed with field-beating machinery? Voice your thoughts in the comments section below.

Without Malaysian’s Petronas supporting him, he is nothing.

Give Max Verstappen the same machine(Mercedes F1). Lets see who will eventually be the most successful F1 driver. There is one thing Max has over Hamilton & that is – “Youngest F1 driver to win a GP at 18 yrs plus”.

Some people need to work his way up from nothing, Lewis for example starting from karting, winning a few junior formulas, graduates into single seaters and winning them (formula renault, F3, GP2) prior making into F1.

Max on the other hand backed by his father Jos making his way quite easily & drastically. No doubt on his talent, a future F1 World Champ no doubt.

well, racing is a rich man’s game, whether it’s just a Vios Racing Series or Kart, it takes alot of time & money to groom a prospect racer, and the success rate is very low, if you can’t even be a Professional Gamer, imagine how hard it would be to participate in motorsports, the cost is easily x100000 of E-Games.

Lewis may not be coming from a really rich family as many others, but he’s sure richer than most people and thus has the advantage that most people don’t.

Bro, the article is about winning F1 GP/titles. The reason Max went to F1 earlier is bcos his father & backers/sponsors think he is good enough to be in F1.

U don’t put your own son life into a possible life threatening sports if he is not up to game right !! This is a MAN sports. Its for grownups.

That is why a selected few went “express” class instead of going the conventional way of go-karting >singleseater >F3 >GP2 B4 F1.

Who am I to be doubting Lewis since he has proven it 4 times already. My point is give Max the same car to prove his worth if he is as good as Lewis if not better.

The best driver doesn’t win in F1. The car makes the driver a winner. If all cars were equal Fernando Alonso would be the best. No doubt Lewis, Seb, Max and Daniel are talented. Lewis has been blessed with a good car for all the years that he has driven. Anyway, congrats to Lewis as that is the way F1 is

  • A combination of both raw talent and good machines is needed to be a world champion. Alonso is a great driver let down by poor machines.
Vettel is also talent and have good machines, but let down by reliability issues and some bad luck.
Max is a potential world champion – if he have the backing and good machines. And a bit of luck.
The others like Daniel, Bottas, Sainz, are “Good”, but not “Great”.
