Castrol launches Magnatec lubricant with Dualock technology – developed for stop-start traffic

Having been in the Malaysian automotive lubricants market for over two decades, Castrol has launched the latest iteration of its Magnatec range of lubricants for the Malaysian market, now with Dualock technology. Castrol Magnatec lubricants for the Malaysian market are manufactured in Thailand.

Four grades of the new Castrol Magnatec engine lubricant are available; the 10W-40 grade is priced at RM138.70, 10W-30 at RM143.40, 5W-30 at RM187.80 and 0W-20 at RM201.90. Prices for each lubricant grade are for four-litre packs. The 10W-40 grade oil is for petrol engines, the 10W-30 oil is for petrol and diesel engines, the 5W-30 grade is for petrols, diesels and hybrids, and the 0W-20 grade is for petrol and petrol hybrids, says Castrol.

A stop-start function-equipped vehicle can trigger as many as 18,000 stop-start cycles in a year, over the course of standard driving practices, Castrol notes, adding that the occurrences put up to 66% more load on critical engine components compared to relatively steady-state driving on open roads. Malaysia is the fourth country to receive the latest iteration of Castrol Magnatec with Dualock technology, after China, Thailand and India.

Dualock technology gets its name from Castrol’s molecular innovation, where a pair of protective molecules lock together and form a protective layer on engine components, which delivers a 50% reduction in wear and tear from engine warm-up and stop-start operation. This new generation of Magnatec lubricants was developed with traffic congestion in mind, says Castrol.

“It took 10 years and more than three million km of real-world driving to introduce a new generation of Castrol Magnatec, which is engineered specifically for stressful driving conditions,” said marketing director for Castrol Malaysia and Singapore Keow Mei-Shan.
