Subaru has released a limited edition version of the WRX, called the Subaru WRX Raiu Edition. Raiu means thunderstorm in Japanese, and the Cool Grey Khaki paint colour reflects the gloomy theme. Before you get excited, just 100 units of the car will be made, and all are bound for Canada.
The special edition model is based on the WRX Sport-tech RS, but gains several exclusive upgrades such as STI-branded front lip, side sills, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and a special short-throw six-speed manual shifter with Hill Holder system. There are also black exterior accents which enhance sportiness, as well as a set of 18-inch dark twin-five spoke alloy wheels.
Unlike the STI, the WRX is powered by a direct injection 2.0 litre horizontally-opposed Boxer engine. The four-potter comes with a twin-scroll turbocharger to produce 268 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Power is routed to all four wheels through the company’s famous symmetrical all-wheel drive system, and the Raiu Edition is only available with a six-speed manual.
Other mechanical bits include performance Jurid brake pads (up front) with red-painted brake callipers all round, shot-peen open type rear differential and a viscous-coupling limited-slip centre differential.
Inside, it receives front Recaro performance seats with “Ultrasuede” and leather upholstery for both the front and rear, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities, as well as a nine-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system. Prices start from CAD$40,995 (RM129k). Enthusiast, does this tickle your fancy?
