Subaru issues global recall for potentially faulty valve springs and multi-info display – Malaysia affected

Subaru has officially issued two global recalls for vehicles which may be fitted with defective valve springs or multi-info instrument cluster displays. Motor Image confirms it will notify affected customers in Malaysia about the recall, and will replace the parts free of charge.

In the case of potentially defective valve springs, vehicles manufactured from January 16, 2012 to May 14, 2013 are affected. These include models powered by either the FA20 or FB20 boxer engines – 2013 MY BRZ, 2013-2014 MY Legacy/Outback, 2012-2014 MY Forester and 2012-2014 MY Impreza/XV.

As explained, the valve springs in affected engines could fracture at high loads, leading to issues such as the engine stalling, abnormal engine noise and the inability to restart the engine. Replacing the valve springs is a necessary precautionary measure to prevent such a possibility.

As for the matter involving multi-info displays, Subaru says a programming issue may cause inaccurate data relating to the vehicle’s remaining fuel and range, being shown on the display. This recall affects the 2018 MY Legacy/Outback vehicles made before August 1, 2018.

Should be like Proton, very few recalls in the past 30 years compared with other car companies. Either they are lying or their car is super good. Don’t know which one.

But then better than Perodua. Never ever had a recall even when got brake disc problems, axle detachment, faulty electronics, & paper thin flimsy body.

Big job to open up the engine and change all the valve springs (2 banks for the boxer engine). Car might be out of service for 2 weeks. Hopefully they will put back together everything again correctly.

Japanese quality is going down the drain while Chinese like Geely are improving leaps and bounds. Japan has a lot to learn from China.
