Fresh from record calendar year sales in 2018, Perodua has started this year on a bullish note. The market leader revealed that it sold over 20,100 vehicles in January 2019, including 1,025 units of the recently-launched Aruz SUV, all registered on the last day of the month. P2 has collected 8,000 bookings for the Aruz.
“Despite the delay in the registration of Aruz, we managed to maximise the delivery of Aruz up to the wee hours, in anticipation of the long Chinese New Year break,” said Perodua Sales MD Datuk Zahari Husin.
“Pending official figures from MAA, we estimate our market share for January 2019 to be around 41.7%, a 9.2% growth from 18,400 units sold in December 2018,” he said. Year-on-year, Perodua’s January 2019 tally is 13.6% higher.
“The strong demand on Aruz has resulted some waiting period especially for the AV variant. We are doing our best to reduce this waiting period to a more acceptable level,” Zahari said, adding that the current Aruz order composition is 85% for the AV (RM77,900 OTR without insurance) and 15% for the entry X variant (RM72,900 OTR without insurance). Zahari also dispelled speculation that Aruz prices are set to increase.
As for Perodua’s other models, the Myvi leads the way with over 8,400 units sold last month, followed by the Axia (5,500 units), Bezza (3,400) and Alza (1,600). Specs, galleries and walk-around video of the new Perodua Aruz seven-seater SUV here.
