Audi Q8 3.0 TFSI quattro now in M’sia, from RM728k

After being put on display earlier this year, the Audi Q8 has now gone on sale in Malaysia. The rival to the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and BMW X6 is available in a sole, five-seat variant, and can be yours from RM727,900 without insurance.

In terms of specifications, the Q8 is pretty much identical to what we were shown previously. Under the bonnet, you’ll find a 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine with 340 hp from 5,200-6,400 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 1,370-4,500 rpm. An eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission sends drive to all four wheels via Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system, allowing for a century sprint time of 5.9 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The setup also includes a mild hybrid system featuring a 48-volt electrical system with a lithium-ion battery and a belt alternator starter. During braking, it can recover up to 12 kW of power and feed it back into the battery, enabling long coasting phases with the engine deactivated and a start-stop range that begins at 22 km/h. The claimed combined fuel consumption is rated at 8.9 litres per 100 km, or 11.2 km per litre.

Other driving-related systems include all-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension and progressive steering. Many of these systems, along with the powertrain, are linked to the Audi drive select interface, allowing drivers to cycle through various drive modes.

Equipment-wise, the Q8 gets HD matrix LED headlights with dynamic light design and dynamic turn signal, LED tail lights with dynamic turn signal, parking aid plus with 360-degree surround view cameras, panoramic sunroof and 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels with 275/50 tyres.

Open the soft-closing doors and you’ll be greeted by Valcona leather upholstery and Oak Grey interior inlays. Those at the front will be seated on individual contour seats with 18-way power adjustment and seat ventilation (memory function for the driver). Other creature comforts include an electric sunshade for the rear windscreen, as well as manual sun blinds for both rear doors.

On the technology front, Audi’s virtual cockpit remains prominent, while the MMI navigation plus infotainment system with MMI touch response. The last item is as we’ve seen on the latest A8, and includes a dual-screen setup with 10.1-inch upper and 8.6-inch lower touchscreens. Other items include four-zone automatic climate control, Bang & Olufsen Premium sound system with 3D sound, Audi smartphone interface and a head-up display.

As for the safety bits, you’ll get Audi pre sense front as standard, which comes with turn assist and collision avoidance assist, as well as camera-based traffic sign recognition. Six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system and Isofix child seat anchors are all standard as well.

Colour options that are available include Dragon orange metallic, Glacier white metallic, Galaxy blue metallic, Cobra beige metallic and Samurai grey metallic. A five-year/unlimited mileage comes with the price tag, and is an improvement over the previous four-year/120,000 km coverage offered.

  • Wait what??? I thought Q8 is 1 segment bigger than GLE and X6 (X6 = X5 Coupe). It’s like you’re comparing X5 with GLC coupe. It’s a totally different segment…
