The all-new BMW X7 has been confirmed for Malaysia, with a launch scheduled for May 2019, BMW Malaysia told paultan.org. Munich’s flagship SUV (or Sports Activity Vehicle, as the company calls its X cars) is hot of the press, having been unveiled in October 2018. Series production at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA started in December last year, and the international press drive is happening as we speak.
Previewed by the Concept X7 iPerformance from 2017, the G07 X7 sits above the previous “boss” of BMW’s X range, the X5, which recently went into the fourth generation.
The X7 is based on a modified X5 platform and aims to offer 7 Series luxury in a big SUV body. BMW is targeting cars like the Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz GLS and Lexus LX, among others. North America and China are expected to be the biggest markets for the X7.
The X7 is a full seven-seater SUV with a six-seat option comprising two middle row individual seats. Malaysia is expected to get the regular three-seat bench in the middle row, in xDrive40i form.
The base petrol option is powered by a 3.0 litre turbocharged inline-six with 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 5,200 rpm. Paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the firm’s rear-biased xDrive all-wheel drive system, the X7 xDrive40i is good for 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 245 km/h. Not bad for an over 2.3-tonne giant with every conceivable feature in the carmaker’s arsenal.
How big is big? At 5,151 mm long, 2,000 mm wide and 1,805 mm tall, the X7 is 229 mm longer and 60 mm taller than the latest X5, which is also coming very soon to our market. The three-row SUV’s 3,105 mm wheelbase is 130 mm longer than the G05 X5’s. It also has a larger footprint than the Mercedes GLS. Read more about the new BMW X7 here.

Good that they bringing in the smaller capacity X7 since it’s going to be a CBU model and I think this giant will rival the Range Rover Sport in terms of price of around 800k

BMW never seems to make good looking SUVs. The first X5 was dull, the X3 was an unfortunate mismash of different BMW parts, the X1 looks like a skinny disapportionate hatchback.
Come to think of it, everyone seems not to be able to come up with good looking large full sized luxury SUVs at all…. Save Range Rover and Cadillac.
The G wagon? That doesn’t count. That one is a military vehicle.
The current GLA definitely looks more like a hatchback compared to the X1.
