Bosch launches ‘Drive for Life’ car safety campaign

Bosch Automotive Aftermarket Malaysia (Bosch AA) launched Drive for Life, a car and road safety campaign, yesterday in KL. Officiated by transport minister Anthony Loke and Hannah Yeoh, deputy minister of women, family and community development; the campaign’s aim is to raise awareness of the importance of regular car maintenance and the usage of quality car parts.

“From our surveys done in 2018, more than 50% of Malaysian drivers lack knowledge in basic car maintenance and its impact on passenger, car and road safety. Car maintenance may seem a little intimidating but by doing simple things such as keeping to the servicing schedule and taking note of unusual sounds and smells when driving, car owners can greatly increase reliability, longevity and performance. More importantly, proactive car care and maintenance using quality parts lower the risks of accidents on the road,” said Marcio Coelho, director of sales and marketing services at Bosch AA Asia Pacific Southeast.

Drive for Life is a three-year long campaign that will be executed in three phases – Educate, Engage and Empower. Some of the planned activities include a series of workshops educating drivers on basic car maintenance, enhancing the driving curriculum with practical tips for first-time drivers, and empowering next generation mechanics.

The campaign will also include a #BoschEmpowersWomen segment to drive home the message that car maintenance is not just a man’s domain, but one that’s necessary for everyone. From the same surveys, it was found that less than 50% of drivers and only 1% of women know how to troubleshoot a car during a breakdown. 70% of car breakdowns are caused by battery malfunction, it also found.

Collaborating with Petron, the campaign will kick off by providing drivers free vehicle inspection services prior to their balik kampung journey on the third and fourth weekends in May at selected Petron stations in the Klang Valley. The 25-point inspection will include checks on the battery, engine oil, fluid levels, tyre tread and brake pads.

You know, these Mini-stars can very well do that by not charging 16% SST for genuine spareparts. That is, if they really do care about the safety and lives of road users.

Both the electronic and print media do very little towards road safety. It’s a shame.
