The BMW 8 Series will soon get its third member after the 8 Series Coupe and 8 Series Convertible. The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is, like other GC-badged cars, a four-door coupe.

The 8 Series Gran Coupe is described by Munich as a “four-door sports car of consummate elegance, with an interior epitomising modern luxury.” It is currently in the final phase of development for series production, and will make its world debut at the inaugural BMW Group #NextGen event in Munich on June 25. The market launch will happen in September.

A Gran Coupe version of the 8 Series is not too difficult to imagine, and what we can see from the brightened teaser image above isn’t surprising. What’s good is that the 8GC sports a sleek and sweeping roofline that culminates in an integrated ducktail boot spoiler – it’s very similar to the two-door Coupe. As an alternative top-tier four-door to the 7 Series limo, the 8GC is differentiated enough.

The 8 Series Gran Coupe has a longer wheelbase than the Coupe, and Munich mentions “impressive space for rear passengers” and “enhanced ride comfort” as attributes.

“The new 8 Series Gran Coupe fuses breathtaking performance credentials with an emotion-stirring design and spacious rear compartment. Its standalone character is brought to the fore most prominently by a design as graceful as it is flamboyant. Athletic proportions and dynamically flowing lines come together to create an aura of sporting exclusivity,” BMW added.

Expect the powertrains on the Coupe/Convertible to be repeated here. The 8 Series duo can be had as a 840d xDrive (3.0L straight-six diesel, 320 hp, 680 Nm) or M850i xDrive (4.4L V8 petrol, 530 PS, 730 Nm).
