The new Lexus ES, which was previewed in Malaysia late last year at KLIMS 2018, is now open for booking. We’re getting the seventh-generation sedan in ES 250 form, priced at RM299,888 on-the-road without insurance for the Premium and RM332,888 for the Luxury trim level.

The new ES is an arresting sight in the metal, and it looks very much like a “baby LS”. While the exterior design is significantly more emotional and dynamic, Lexus says that it contains a more spacious (class-leading rear legroom) and refined cabin than its predecessor. That win-win is due to a wider and longer chassis – the Global Architecture – K (GA-K) is essentially Lexus’ version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform.

Power comes from the latest 2.5 litre Dynamic Force direct-injected four-cylinder petrol engine, making 204 hp at 6,600 rpm and 243 Nm of torque from 4,000 to 5,000 rpm. It is paired to an eight-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission sending power to the front axle.

Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+), which made its recent debut in the 2019 Lexus NX 300, is standard across the board here as well. LSS+ includes Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with Stop and Go function. The Luxury version adds on three bi-beam LED headlights with Adaptive High Beam System (AHS).

The top-spec car also comes with a 10-way powered front seat, powered reclining rear seats, three-zone climate control, head-up display, 12.3-inch centre screen and a panoramic view monitor. One can choose from seven exterior colours and two interior colour schemes.

The Lexus ES is a CBU import from Japan and buyers will enjoy a five-year unlimited mileage warranty.
