2020 Honda Civic Hatchback facelift debuts in the US

The Honda Civic Hatchback has been given a facelift in the United States for the 2020 model year (MY20), joining the Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe which were updated last year, with improvements to its styling as well as its equipment list. Prices start at US$21,650 (RM90,713) and peak at US$28,850 (RM120,881), with four variants (LX, Sport, EX, EX-L and Sport Touring) offered.

All variants are powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which serves up 174 hp at 6,000 rpm and 220 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 5,500 rpm. A six-speed manual and CVT is available for Sport and Sport Touring – the latter for the first time as part of the update – while all other variants get a CVT only.

Styling-wise, the new Civic Hatchback has been made to look more aggressive thanks to a revised lower apron that features a body-coloured crossbar to link the fog lamp housings. The housings themselves no longer feature a honeycomb mesh within them, and now have a largely featureless black panel with small slits and decorative “blades” instead.

Other changes that are less immediately noticeable can be found on the headlamps, which have been given a blackout treatment for a sportier look. The “wing” upper grille has also been slightly reshaped, and continues to link the two front lighting units. Cars in Sport Touring guise also benefit from improved LED headlamps with wider and longer light beams.

Around back, the lower bumper “outlets” mimic the changes to the front, also a new body-coloured crossbar. Elsewhere, all trims feature new wheel designs that are finished in either dark grey or black.

Moving inside, there is new dash trim to differentiate the trim levels, with Sport cars sporting a new geometrical pattern, LX and EX receive a new painted pattern, while EX-L and Sport Touring get a brushed black treatment. Additional sound insulation in the floor, trunk, and front and rear fenders have also been fitted across the range.

Equipment revisions for MY20 include an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat for EX trims (previously manually operated), along with a new leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. As for Sport versions of the Civic Hatchback, the seven-inch Display Audio infotainment system now comes with eight speakers (previously four), as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

The trim level also gains keyless entry and start, the latter also operable via the key fob, plus new seat upholstery and embossed dash trim similar to its sedan equivalent. Lastly, Sport Touring trims also now come with HomeLink to activate devices such as garage door openers.

The MY20 changes builds upon what was introduced for MY19, which included Honda Sensing as standard across the Civic Hatchback line-up, updated Display Audio system on EX, EX-L and Sport Touring trims, physical buttons for fan speed on models with dual-zone climate control, a new centre console cup holder, and an updated electronic parking brake with an indicator light.

Another facelift that makes this game changing Civic looks more sporty and stunning. I hope it comes here soon, many people are waiting for this facelift. Proton should also learn from Honda so they can make their game over Persona looks stunning.
