Mercedes-Benz has teased the debut of the all-new C253 GLE Coupe, which is set to be unveiled on August 28 according to postings on its social media channels. There isn’t much to go on here, aside from a shot of the SUV’s taillight and a caption that promises “more luxury, more coupe.”
In the case of the former, the GLE Coupe’s taillights feature ring-shaped graphics like what we’ve seen on the non-coupe V167 GLE as well as the GLC models (X253 and C253). Unlike the ones found on outgoing C252 model, they also have a sleeker, upswept look to them.
While the teaser photo provides limited information, our spy photographers have managed to capture the latest GLE Coupe on several occasions in the past, including the performance-focused AMG versions (GLE 53 Coupe and GLE 63 Coupe).
In terms of design, the new GLE Coupe adopts a similar profile to its predecessor, with a prominent coupe-like roofline that gently slopes towards the rear tailgate. The most noticeable change happens at the front, with reshaped headlamps that sport two LED DRL strips within them, similar to the latest GLE.
Standard versions of the GLE Coupe get a subtle front bumper with a single-slat grille, while the AMG models pile on the aggression with larger intakes up front and a Panamericana grille. Based on the spyshots provided to us, the GLE 43 Coupe gets four round tailpipes at the back, with the GLE 63 Coupe having four trapezoidal-shaped exhausts instead.
Unfortunately, there are no shots of the interior, but it should be largely carried over from the regular GLE, so expect a similar dashboard layout featuring dual widescreen displays to be the centrepiece of the cabin, with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience powering them.
Similarly, engine options likely include a mix of turbocharged petrol and diesel powerplants ranging from 2.0 litre four-cylinder to 3.0 litre straight-six units. The more powerful AMG variants get more powerful six-cylinder and V8 engines instead.
