2019 Mazda CX-5 launching in Malaysia soon – 2.5L turbo variant confirmed; order books open tomorrow

For those who have been waiting for the Mazda CX-5 to be offered with a turbocharged petrol engine in Malaysia, good news! Bermaz has announced that the 2019 model will be launched very soon, and you can start placing your orders starting from tomorrow.

Specific details aren’t out yet, but Bermaz did confirm the new variant would be equipped with a SkyActiv-G 2.5 litre turbo four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive. Referring to the Japan-spec version, the engine should serve up 230 PS at 4,250 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, with a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic being the most likely transmission pairing.

Aside from the addition of a turbo variant, the rest of the 2019 CX-5 line-up should be updated with new features as well. Using Japan as a reference point again, these will likely include a digital instrument cluster (like that in the latest Mazda 3), new climate control switchgear, a windscreen-projected head-up display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support and many more.

The second-generation CX-5 was first introduced here back in October 2017, and was offered with two naturally-aspirated SkyActiv-G petrol engines (in 2.0 and 2.5 litre capacities) as well as a sole SkyActiv-D diesel 2.2 litre powerplant. The SUV was given a slight update a year later with the addition of an electric powered tailgate on selected variants.

Interested parties can head on over to Sunway Pyramid to check out the SUV in person, along with other models, as there will be a Mazda roadshow taking place there from September 4 to 9, 2019. Excited yet?

I’m so excited waiting for this game changing Mazda CX-5. Not only it has tons of advance technologies, it also has complete safety features, excellent quality, powerful engine and futuristic Kodo design. This game changer does make me feel more confident in driving rather than a China X70

Enough of the game over nonsense Mario. Hyundai is a global game changing carmaker that have sold millions of cars worldwide. How can an international carmaker have terrible service and quality? Instead of discrediting Hyundai, better ask yourself how to improve Proton game over service and quality.

Clearly he/she was talking about MRCC. I am sure you have no idea what is MRCC. Mazda Radar Cruise Control or generally Adaptive Cruise Control that can maintain our vehicle speed according to the vehicle at front. Subaru’s tech. does not use radar; only use camera.

Ladies & gentlemen, this is the number 1 reason on why we cannot get adaptive cruise control (ACC) in MALAYSIA. Clearly, Proton (X70), Hyundai (Ioniq), Nissan (X-Trail), Honda (CR-V) are mistakes too for giving ACC to MALAYSIAN. We dont deserve the technology, even we can afford it. Well-done “Semi-Value”. We also dont deserve the autonomous driving IN THE FUTURE since this is our drivers attitude.

engine capacity much bigger than the CRV turbo but the horsepower is not very much more. a 1.5 turbo already can push out 190hp. the CX-5 2.5 turbo should push out at least 260hp to 280hp.

Do agree, Mazda still fanning old school NA engine. Even days of small turbo churning out high output is going off soon. Nowadays, small turbo engine works together with electric motor plus 8-12kWh battery is going to be the norm. Furthermore, if customers buying the 2.0L will be getting rear solid torsion beam. Had a 2.0L unit before, already sold it off. Slow pick up, never like overtaking in it. If you constantly hit the gas pedal hard, your fuel consumption will go up fast. In the old days why it sells, because there wasn’t much competition and it offers curtain airbags, 5 star EuroNcap score.

Even the lower horsepower CX-5 2.2 diesel was able to beat CRV (173hp vs 190hp) in 0-100kmh dash contest. Please see the video made by Hafriz & gang. CRV whilst very practical and bigger inside is not that dynamic and will lose out during cornering or at certain highways like Karak.

  • No MRCC is a big no. Price heading to 190k mark and current 2.0 also price hike for durian Carplay..memo seats is over the hill. If CBU, still acceptable in some aspects. CKD is only reaping profits and giving consumers the worthless gadgets. Having own 3 Mazda’s. The CKD cx5 is not up to par. Seats not tighten .. gotta check upon 1k SVC due this month and brakes giving wonderful sound during braking downhill.. yea.. notice the battery , it’s a cheapo Charlie brand. Thanks for cutting cost n again.. give consumers poo!

  • In Australia, the 2.5 turbo adds an extra aud2.5k over the 2.5NA models price. If they CKD it here, then it shouldn’t cost more than rm10-15k over the 2.5NA model.

Typical Malaysian nitwits, turbo this and turbo that, smokes this and smokes that then complain of high maintenance, pricey spare parts, high fuel consumption and the list goes on and on. Price estimated starts from nearly RM200K to RM200++K for the full spec. If you’re looking for power to weight ratios and bang for your buck. Why not look at the new XC60 or XC40 new, GLA or GLC recond, RX200 or RX350 recond or you could wait for the rumoured Mazda 4 with a 3.0litre inline 6 with up to 300hp. End of the day, park an old ML350 2013/14 besides them it still stand outs perfectly above the rest just like mine.
