F54 MINI Clubman facelift launched in Malaysia – Cooper S with 192 hp, 280 Nm; priced from RM299k

BMW Malaysia has introduced the F54 MINI Clubman facelift in the country, the car arriving in a sole Cooper S variant form. The refresh, which was announced in April, adds on styling updates and expands on equipment and connectivity options available for the car.

Exterior revisions are led by a new grille design running almost across the front bumper, with a honeycomb mesh pattern replacing the previous oblongs on the Cooper S. The lighting units have also been reworked – the LED headlamps and fog lamps have been restyled with daytime running light and driving light rings that go around the entire perimeter of the circular lamps.

At the back, LED tail lights are now standard, with a Union Jack design for the graphics. The launch vehicle also features the new Indian Summer Red exterior finish with a piano black roof, and is dressed in 18-inch MINI Yours British Spoke two-tone design wheels.

Inside, the Clubman is dressed in MINI Yours Walknappa Leather Lounge carbon black upholstery – complete with Union Jack motif on the headrests – and a Walknappa steering wheel. A MINI Yours Interior Styles illumination package in Frozen Blue provides lighting elements in said shade for the door bezels, the cockpit bezel and trim as well as on areas of the centre console.

Additionally, the cabin is dressed in MINI Yours floor mats featuring black piping and aluminium-coloured seam patterns, and there’s also a MINI Yours design label to be found on the side windows.

Interior kit includes two-zone automatic air-conditioning, a high-resolution 6.5-inch touchscreen MINI Navigation System, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and MINI Connected, with Concierge Service, Apple Carplay and MINI Online part of the inventory.

The MINI Connected app also enables sending navigational information from smartphone to vehicle and receiving departure information as well MINI Remote Services features such as displaying vehicle location, fuel level and other vehicle status details on mobile devices. The function also allows quick activation of the headlight flash, horn, ventilation and door lock/unlock function.

The Cooper S is powered by a 2.0 litre MINI TwinPower Turbo engine offering 192 hp from 5,000 to 6,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque from 1,350 to 4,600 rpm, and the miill is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch sports automatic transmission. Performance figures for the variant include a 0-100 km/h time of 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 228 km/h.

Safety kit includes six airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with traction contol and an electronic differential lock control (EDLC) as well as rear park distance control and a rear view camera. Still no autonomous emergency braking, however.

Aside from Indian Summer Red, the Clubman Cooper S is available in five other exterior colours – New British Racing Green, Pepper White, Thunder Grey, Melting Silver and Starlight Blue. The facelifted MINI Cooper S Clubman is priced at RM298,888 (on-the-road, without insurance), and comes with a MINI 4-Years unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service.

I was quietly hoping it would be priced in the mid-200s like the last gen. Tough sell. Really.
