In addition to passenger electric vehicles (EVs), BYD is also launching an offensive in the European light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment with this, the E-Vali. Making its debut at this year’s IAA Transportation in Hannover, the E-Vali is expected to go on sale in 2025 to take on models such as the Ford E-Transit, Renault Master and others.
The standard E-Vali measures 5,995 mm long with a cargo volume of 491 cubic feet. It is joined by a larger version of the van that is 6,995 mm long, which sees an increase in capacity to 632 cubic feet. Depending on the variant, the payload capacity is between 700 and 1,450 kg.
Design-wise, the BYD LCV is boxy in shape as you’d expect, with cues that make it stand out being square headlamps mounted down low and joined by two LED strips that match the lines on the radiator grille. The barn doors at the rear open to reveal a low loading sill of 435 mm, while it is 467 mm for the sliding doors at the sides.
Inside, the dashboard features plenty of storage spaces and gets a digital instrument cluster as well as 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Depending on the nature of the work, the E-Vali can be customised to meet the needs of various businesses.
As for the powertrain, the E-Vali is fitted with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that has an energy capacity of 80.64 kWh. The battery powers either a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 136 PS (134 hp or 100 kW) or a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup with 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) – the range is between 220 and 250 km following the WLTP cycle.
AC charging is at a peak of 22 kW, and there’s DC fast charging at up to 188 kW, with a 10-80% state of charge reached in 30 minutes. There’s also a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system offered to power appliances and other electrical devices on the job site.
