This is the Ford Puma Gen-E, which is the fully electric version of the brand’s best-selling model in Europe. Joining the EcoBoost Hybrid-equipped options currently on sale in the region, the new electric vehicle is meant to provide Puma buyers with a wider range of powertrain options.
The Puma Gen-E features a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that supports DC fast charging at up to 100 kW, with a 10-80% state of charge achieved in just 23.2 minutes. With an energy capacity of 43 kWh, it delivers a WLTP-rated range of 376 km combined, or 523 km city.
Power from the battery goes to a front-mounted electric motor rated at 168 PS (166 hp or 123.5 kW) and 290 Nm of torque. This enables a 0-100 km/h time of eight seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h, with the claimed energy consumption being 13.1 kWh/100 km.
The use of an electric powertrain means the Puma Gen-E offers better practicality when compared to its ICE equivalents. According to Ford, the EV boasts something called the GigaBox, which offers 574 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place, or 118 litres more than the regular Puma’s MegaBox. There’s also a 43-litre frunk for smaller items and accessories.
Inside, the lack of a conventional transmission means the centre console can be raised and now offers extra storage space. Beyond that, the rest of the cabin mirrors its revised ICE counterparts, with cues being a 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch central infotainment touchscreen running SYNC 4 and a near-square steering wheel.
On the mention of design, the exterior of the Puma Gen-E stands out with a closed-off grille and new front bumper, but is otherwise similar to the ICE Pumas. Matrix LED headlamps are optional, with other available tech features being adaptive cruise control with stop and go and lane centring as well as a 360-degree camera.
The Puma Gen-E is built at Ford Otosan’s assembly plant in Craiova, Romania, with the electric drive units being sourced from the carmaker’s facility in Halewood, United Kingdom. Deliveries start in spring 2025 in Europe, with prices set to be announced closer to launch.
