Yes, the company that brought you your parcels this morning is venturing into EV manufacturing, if Car News China is to be believed. Lalamove is about to launch an automotive brand called Duola Auto – 多拉八方, pull more (goods) – and its first model, an EV van, is shown above.
Called Duola Bafang – 多拉八方, pull more (goods) in all directions – the van has a very cute, surprised look and a flat, empty face (no logo even – great place to put some advertising!), but everything else looks quite ordinary. Like any van.
At 5,095 mm long, 1,870 mm wide and 1,990 mm tall, with a 3,300 mm wheelbase, the Duola Bafang has a substantial 3,085 mm x 1,705 mm x 1,485 mm (7.8-cubic metre) cargo hold. There are three seats up front, one sliding kerbside door and 270-degree swing-out double doors out back. A 128 PS electric motor is fed by either a CATL 43.53 kWh battery, a FinDreams 43.06 kWh battery or an EVE Energy 41.86 kWh battery for a max range of 305 km.
Citing filings with China’s ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT), CNC reports that the Duola Bafang is produced in partnership with Changan Kaicene, Changan’s commercial vehicle sub-brand. It’s likely that Changan Kaicene does the manufacturing while Lalamove is responsible for the design and technology.
Lalamove has actually been working on going into EV manufacturing for about four years, adding “new energy vehicle sales” to its business scope in 2023. It also stated in its Hong Kong Stock Exchange prospectus that it was exploring new opportunities in electric commercial vehicle research and development.
According to Lalamove’s 2024 data, 40% of its platform orders are already fulfilled by new energy vehicles, accumulating 7.4 billion km in mileage. The company has also built 940,000 charging piles across 338 cities.
