Government will not raise the price of RON95 petrol despite recent surge in global oil prices – PM Anwar

Prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government will maintain the price of RON 95 petrol at its existing capped level despite a surge in global crude oil prices as a result of the geopolitical tensions involving Iran and Israel.

He reassured the public that the price of RON 95, which has remained at a fixed RM2.05 per litre since February 2021, would not be increased, because doing so would impact the public as well as the economy, Bernama reports.

He said that although the price increase benefits the national petroleum company, the government aims to avoid burdening the people with higher fuel costs.

“Oil prices fluctuate. Currently, it is relatively low. (If) there is a sharp increase, the returns are good for Petronas, but it affects other countries. We are not increasing fuel prices because of its impact on the people,” he said.
