Chinese carmaker GAC has announced that the GAC Indonesia Smart Factory in Jakarta has officially been completed, and operations have commenced.
This facility is equipped with an advanced NEV production system, featuring a flexible, multi-model production line with battery and high-voltage safety systems, says GAC.
The launch of its Jakarta facility is part of the “One GAC 2.0” Indonesia Action Plan, which the carmaker says is focused on six key areas – product, channel, service, smart manufacturing, energy ecosystem, and mobility ecosystem, towards the creation of a sustainable, localised and systematic operational model, according to GAC.
According to the carmaker’s announcement, the first vehicle to be produced from the facility is the Aion V, a battery-electric crossover that was previewed in Malaysia last month. This measures 4,605 mm long, 1,876 mm wide and 1,686 mm tall, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase, which makes it 150 mm longer, one mm wider, 71 mm taller and 55 mm longer of wheelbase than the BYD Atto 3.
The Aion V is powered by a single-motor drivetrain producing 150 kW (204 PS) and 240 Nm of torque, propelling the vehicle from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and to a top speed of 160 km/h. Energy is stored in a 75.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) GAC Magazine Battery providing up to 602 km of range on the NEDC, a figure that is likely to be closer to 500 km on the more stringent WLTP testing standard.
At last month’s preview of the Aion V, Malaysian distributor for the GAC and Aion brands, WTC Automotif stated that the Aion V is expected to launch in Malaysia in the third quarter of this year, which is close. Regionally, the Aion V was launched in Thailand last November with a single variant, at 1,029,900 baht (RM134,700 at the time).
