Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Kia Sportage is a five-seat C-segment SUV for buyers who want a petrol family SUV rather than a seven-seater or an EV. The NQ5 generation was launched locally in 2024 and is sold with 2.0-litre naturally aspirated or 1.6-litre turbo petrol power. Prices start from RM129,639.

Sportage in 2026 — what's new

For 2026, the local Sportage carries on as the CKD NQ5 with four variants: two 2.0-litre 2WD models and two 1.6-litre turbo High models, one of them AWD. Kia Sales Malaysia began operations in 2026 and set the current lower price band, while the latest aftersales update is the Kia Maintenance Plan for the Carnival and Sportage, priced from RM2,980. There is no 2026 mechanical change for the Sportage.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should start with the 2.0G 2WD at RM129,639 because it has the same 1,999 cc, 154 hp petrol engine, automatic gearbox, 2WD layout and five-seat format as the 2.0G High 2WD at RM139,639; on paper, the RM10,000 gap is trim, not mechanicals. Choose the 1.6T High 2WD at RM159,320 for the 177 hp turbo engine and dry dual-clutch automatic. The 1.6T High AWD at RM179,320 is for buyers who specifically want all-wheel drive.

Verdict

The Sportage is not the cheapest C-segment SUV here. It costs more than the Proton eMas 7, Proton X70 and Jetour Dashing entry prices, while its base price sits close to the Chery Tiggo 7, MG HS and Mazda CX-30. What it gives you is a four-variant petrol range with a clear step from simple 2.0-litre automatic to turbo power and AWD, but no local hybrid or seven-seat option.
