MG’s HS Mk1 facelift is a five-seat C-segment SUV for buyers who want a petrol-powered family crossover with front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. Both versions use a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 160 hp, paired with a dry dual-clutch gearbox. It starts from RM129,900.

HS in 2026 — what's new

In 2026, the Mk1 facelift carries on unchanged in Standard and Lux form, both retaining the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, 160 hp output, front-wheel drive and dry dual-clutch automatic. A second-generation MG HS is previewed at KLIMS 2026, but no new Mk1 facelift specification or variant is announced. The current Malaysian range remains a two-variant line-up.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should start with the RM129,900 Standard. It has the same 1,490 cc 160 hp petrol engine, FWD layout, dry dual-clutch automatic and five-seat cabin as the RM145,900 Lux. The RM16,000 step to Lux brings no stated mechanical change, so pay more only after confirming that its trim and equipment additions matter to you. On paper, you are paying for trim rather than performance.

Verdict

The HS has a clear mechanical brief: 160 hp from a 1.5-litre petrol turbo, front-wheel drive and a dry dual-clutch automatic in a five-seat C-segment SUV. Its starting point is RM500 above the Chery Tiggo 7 and RM261 above the Kia Sportage, while sitting RM3,900 below the Toyota Corolla Cross. The Lux asks RM16,000 more without a stated mechanical advantage.
