Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Nissan Kicks e-Power is a B-segment SUV with a petrol hybrid/REV powertrain, front-wheel drive and eCVT automatic transmission. Its 218 hp output and five-seat cabin suit motorists seeking an electrified small SUV without moving into a full battery-electric car. The range starts from RM113,800, with the P15 generation launched in 2024.

Kicks e-Power in 2026 — what's new

The Malaysian Nissan Kicks e-Power carries on unchanged into 2026, retaining the VL and VLT range. A facelifted P15 is launched in Thailand with a 1.2-litre petrol unit, 136 PS/280 Nm electric motor and ProPILOT, but no Malaysian facelift specification or launch is confirmed. Two Malaysian units also enter a two-month PDRM proof-of-concept evaluation programme.

Which variant to buy

Pick the RM113,800 VL. It has the same 1,198 cc petrol hybrid/REV system, 218 hp, front-wheel drive, eCVT automatic and five seats as the RM121,800 VLT, so the RM8,000 step-up brings no stated mechanical advantage. Pay more for the VLT only if its equipment or trim differences matter to you after checking the specification list. On paper, the VL is the rational starting point.

Verdict

The Kicks e-Power brings a petrol hybrid/REV alternative to the B-segment SUV class, with 218 hp, front-wheel drive and an eCVT. Its 4,290-mm length, 1,760-mm width and 1,605-mm height give it a compact SUV footprint. The VL costs less than the Honda HR-V, Chery O5 and MG S5, but far more than the Ativa, QV-E and Aruz. The VLT price pushes above all three of those higher-priced named rivals.
