2025 VinFast VF7 launched in Indonesia – C-segment EV SUV; up to 354 PS, 471 km range; from RM129k

The VinFast VF7 has made its launch debut at this year’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), with two variants being made available to customers in the country. First revealed at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the VF7 is a C-segment electric SUV that joins the brand’s other offerings in Indonesia, namely the VF6, VF5, VF3 and VF e34.

The VF7 line-up starts with the Eco that is priced at 499 million rupiah (about RM129k), which is followed by the Plus at 599 million rupiah (RM155k). As part of an early bird promo, both are being offered with a discount of 31 million rupiah (RM8k), which applies to the first 200 customers who take delivery by September 1 this year.

In terms of specifications, the Eco features a front electric motor rated at 177 PS (174 hp or 130 kW) and 250 Nm of torque for a 0-100 km/h time of 10 seconds. Power for the motor comes from a 59.6-kWh battery that provides up to 430 km of range following the NEDC standard.

Meanwhile, the Plus has a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup with a total system output of 354 PS (349 hp or 260 kW) and 500 Nm, which significantly reduces the century sprint time to 5.8 seconds. The top variant is equipped with a 70.8-kWh battery, which has a lower energy capacity than the Plus AWD variant of the VF7 sold in Vietnam (75.6 kWh there). As such, the NEDC range is listed at 471 km instead of 496 km.

A complete spec sheet has yet to be posted on VinFast Indonesia’s official website, but based on what Indonesian media outlets are reporting, the VF7 is available with seven airbags, a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, dual-zone climate control, a head-up display and a powered tailgate.

The Plus variant is said to come with a comprehensive ADAS package, including adaptive cruise control, driver fatigue monitoring, automatic high beam, blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking assist, lane changing assist, front and rear autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist as well as lane centring control.

The VF7 measures 4,545 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,636 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,840 mm as well as a 190 mm of ground clearance (an important stat for Indonesia). Five exterior colours and two interior themes are available, with the Plus featuring a two-tone interior palette.

VinFast has announced it will be at this year’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), which takes place from July 4 to August 3. The Vietnamese carmaker has chosen the event to introduce a “brand-new right-hand drive model to Indonesian consumers,” further expanding its line-up in the country.

Based on a teaser posted on social media a few days ago, the model is the VF7, a C-segment electric SUV that first made its global debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2022. A right-hand drive version of the VF7 was previously presented by VinFast at last year’s Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS).

The previous RHD model that made its way to Indonesia was the VF6 (B-segment SUV), which went on sale in May 2025 with a starting price of 396,995,000 rupiah (about RM104k). Referring to VinFast Indonesia’s official website, other available models include the VF3 (compact SUV), VF e34 (C-segment SUV) and VF5 (A-segment SUV).

On the model to be presented at the upcoming GIIAS, the VF7 measures 4,545 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,636 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,840 mm. In the Philippines (a left-hand drive market) where it is already on sale, the EV is offered in two variants that feature lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.

The base Eco has a 59.6-kWh unit for a WLTP-targeted range of 498 km and is paired with a front electric motor rated at 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) and 250 Nm of torque. The 0-100 km/h time for this is around 10-11 seconds, while the top speed is 150 km/h.

Next up is the Plus that has a larger 75.3-kWh battery and two electric motors for all-wheel drive as well as a total system output of 354 PS (349 hp or 260 kW) and 500 Nm. With the added oomph, the Plus completes the century sprint in 5.8 seconds, while offering a higher top speed of 175 km/h and range of 496 km.

In its home market of Vietnam, the VF7 comes in three options, starting with the Eco that has a 59.6-kWh battery, front electric motor with 177 PS (174 hp or 130 kW) and 250 Nm and up to 498 km of range (NEDC).

It is followed by the Plus with a 75.6-kWh battery, a more powerful front electric motor with 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) and 310 Nm and an undisclosed amount of range. Lastly, there’s the Plus AWD, also with a 75.6-kWh battery but with dual electric motors rated at 354 PS (349 hp or 260 kW) and 500 Nm – the range is 496 km (NEDC).

  • Bangkok 2024: Vinfast enters Thailand – VF e34 June launch; VF3, VF5, VF6, VF7, VF8, VF9 EVs previewed

Vinfast had its brand launch for the Thailand market at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), and the Vietnamese carmaker said it signed partnership agreements with 15 dealers at the show. They must have been impressed by the range of EVs – Vinfast brought out everything it had, from a Suzuki Jimny-style city car to a wild (literally) concept truck, with some production SUVs in between.

According to local media, the brand’s launch model for Thailand is the VF e34, which is set for a June debut. The compact SUV will be followed by the VF 5 two to three months later, while the VF 6 and VF 7 are planned for the end of 2024. That’s four models in half a year, an aggressive strategy that is perhaps vital to keep up with the Chinese carmakers in Thailand’s EV market.

But the model mix is not set in stone. “Our initial focus is to gauge the response of the Thai market. We are keen to understand which of our car models resonates most with Thai consumers. Flexibility is key to our distribution plans, and we are prepared to adapt based on the feedback and demands of the Thai market,” Vinfast Thailand CEO Vu Dang Yen Hang told Khaosod. There will also be electric scooters.

    Vinfast VF e34

Let’s take a look at a couple of EVs from Vinfast’s BIMS booth, starting with the VF e34. The B-segment SUV (about the size of a Honda HR-V, although Vinfast markets it as a C) was unveiled in 2021 as the company’s first electric-powered car, and the first EV to be made and sold in Vietnam. Domestic deliveries started in December 2021, so the VF e34 has had two full years of sales now.

The VF e34 is powered by a 147 hp/242 Nm motor that takes juice from a 42 kWh battery. Range is a modest 285 km, and that’s in the older NEDC cycle. Vinfast says that 18 minutes of fast charging can yield 180 km of range.

Looking more modern and interesting is the VF 5, which is an A-segment crossover that’s smaller than a Perodua Ativa. It went on sale in Vietnam last year as Vinfast’s most affordable EV. Powered by a 134 hp motor and a 37.23 kWh battery, range is quoted as 326 km on the NEDC cycle and DC fast charging from 10-70% SoC takes 30 minutes. With the battery, the VF 5 is priced at 548 million VND in its home market, which is RM104,854.

Vinfast VF 5 top, Vinfast VF 6 bottom

Next up is the VF 6, which kicks off Vinfast’s electric SUV range in the US. Under that eye-catching B-SUV body is a motor with 201 hp/310 Nm, and a 59.6 kWh battery that provides 381 km of range, this time in the more realistic WLTP cycle. Features include available vegan leather, a panoramic glass roof, Level 2 ADAS, head-up display and a 12.9-inch touchscreen that’s heavily tilted towards the driver. Interestingly, gear selection is piano key-style below the screen.

The VF 7 is a C-segment SUV with sharper lines. At 4,545 mm long and 1,890 mm wide, it’s about the size of a Mazda CX-5 but slightly wider and a fair bit lower. It looks good, with Vinfast’s signature ‘V’ LED light bars at both ends, flush door handles and the same cockpit style as the VF 6, but with plusher materials and a larger 15-inch screen.

The higher Plus version of the VF 7 has a 75.3 kWh battery that’s good for 431 km WLTP range. Paired to a 348 hp/500 Nm motor, 0-100 km/h is done in a brisk 5.8 seconds.

    Vinfast VF 7

Next up is the VF 8, which unlike the other SUVs you see here, is already on sale in the US. Launched there last year, the Pininfarina-designed VF 8 swiftly gained notoriety for being the ‘worst reviewed car ever’ in the States, and it was an unanimous voice too. Anyway, the VF 8 has a 87.7 kWh battery and two motors – in the more powerful 402 hp version, range is 391 km, measured by the US EPA. 0-100 km/h is done in 5.5 seconds. What stands out there is the lengthy 10-year/200,000 km (125,000 miles) warranty.

The Vietnamese firm’s largest SUV is the VF 9, which is a three-row behemoth with a 123 kWh battery. With two motors and 402 hp, the 5,115 mm flagship gets to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and has a range of 468 km (US EPA).

We saw plenty of Chinese EVs at BIMS and it became confusing after awhile, as many of the sedans and SUVs have very generic design – swap badges and park one in another booth and not many would realise, we feel. Vinfast is not guilty of same-same though, as its cars have a distinct front and rear look, replete with V-shape LEDs. The latest generation design seen on the VF 5, 6 and 7 is an improvement over previous efforts too.

    Vinfast VF 8

What I like best from the stand is the VF 3, a tiny city EV that looks like a scaled-down Suzuki Jimny. Designed specifically for the Vietnam market, the two-door VF 3 measures just 3,114 mm long (the Japanese kei car limit is 3.4m) but Vinfast says that there’s sufficient space for up to five people. Truly for the local market then – have you seen anyone who isn’t slim in Vietnam?

Vinfast talks about the VF 3’s potential to become a ‘national vehicle’ for Vietnam, putting millions of families into a car and helping to boost EV adoption in the country – what a cool-looking car to push the national agenda! Vinfast plans to start delivering VF 3s in the third quarter this year. By the way, those 16-inch rims look suspiciously similar to the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R factory alloys

Finally, the Vinfast Wild. The concept electric truck was unveiled at CES 2024, hinting at the ambitious carmaker’s range expansion plans beyond SUVs. At 5,324 mm long and 1,997 mm wide, the Wild’s dimensions places it in the mid-size pick-up truck category in the US.

Vinfast VF 3 top, Vinfast Wild concept bottom

Jointly developed by VinFast and Australian design studio GoMotiv, the Wild features a flexible bed that combines the practicality of a power-folding mid-gate to provide class-leading bed length, which can expand from five to eight feet with the rear seats folded down automatically. No specs yet, this is just a concept.

What a range! Interestingly, all the SUVs at BIMS save for the VF 3 (which is not yet in production) are in right-hand drive. That means that the EVs are ready for Thailand and Indonesia, the two RHD markets Vinfast is entering in ASEAN this year. Speaking of Indonesia, the republic is the first country to receive RHD cars from Vinfast with the just-launched VF e34. The other promised models are the VF 5, VF 6 and VF 7, covering A to C segments.

More than just selling EVs there, Vinfast has announced an EV plant in Indonesia with a projected capacity of 50,000 units per annum. When operational, the plant will be a key link in VinFast’s global EV supply chain, the company says. In Asia, Vinfast also has plans for India and the Philippines, but not Malaysia. What do you think of the Vietnamese firm’s products and design?

  • VinFast VF6 and VF7 EV SUVs detailed – FWD, AWD; up to 354 PS and 500 Nm; 10-year battery warranty

VinFast VF6 and VF7 EV SUVs detailed – FWD, AWD; up to 354 PS and 500 Nm; 10-year battery warranty

In January this year, VinFast presented three new electric vehicles at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), namely the VF5, VF6 and VF7. All three were joined by the VF8 and VF9 that have since gone on sale in the United States, with prices starting from USD42,200 (RM185,933) with a battery subscription, or from USD57,000 (RM251,142) with no subscription.

It should be noted that at the time, the VF5, VF6 and VF7 were not introduced as production-ready models, but that has somewhat changed at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show. At the event, the Vietnamese carmaker unveiled the exterior and interior details of two of its upcoming electric SUVs – the VF6 and VF7 – designed by Torino Design.

Slotting in below the VF8 and VF9 that were also present at the show as part of a four-vehicle display line-up, the C-segment VF7 is a midsize SUV that measures 4,545 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,636 mm tall and packs a wheelbase of 2,840 mm.

The styling features cues that are synonymous with the brand, including a full-width light bar that “cradles” the VinFast logo. Unlike its larger siblings, the main headlamps are placed further down at the sides of the bumper in a surround that also accommodates air curtains and the fog lamps.

Meanwhile, the lower apron has trim pieces that divert upwards to create a visual link to the light bar. The creased bonnet, distinct side mirrors and rising belt line contribute to a dynamic exterior, as do the C-pillars with a pinched section highlighted in gloss black.

Equally as distinctive is the rear of the VF7, which replicates the front end by its ultra-slim taillight bar and upturned trim, with both framing the triangular-shaped cutouts and recessed number plate holder.

Inside, you’ll find an infotainment screen angled towards the driver, along with the air vents and a row of buttons that act as gear selectors. The driver-oriented cockpit does not come with a conventional instrument cluster, with driving information being displayed on the big touchscreen or projected by a head-up display. Elsewhere, the centre console houses a wireless charger, a media control dial, cupholders, USB ports, an arm rest and a small stowage cubby.

The VF7 will be available in two variants in the US, with the base Eco packing a front-mounted electric motor rated at 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque. The higher-end option is the Plus that adds on a second electric motor for all-wheel drive and a total system output of 354 PS (349 hp or 260 kW) and 500 Nm.

As for the B-segment VF6, it will also come in Eco and Plus versions, the latter with the same outputs as the VF7 in its base FWD form. However, the VF6 Eco, which is also FWD, has a less powerful electric motor that serves up 177 PS (174 hp or 130 kW) and 250 Nm. VinFast did not disclose battery details in its release, but it did say the VF6 and VF7 are covered by a 10-year vehicle warranty and a 10-year, unlimited-mileage warranty for the EV battery.

The VF6’s interior is very similar to the VF7, incorporating the same driver-focused cockpit, but with a centre console that is shorter and doesn’t meet with the base of the dashboard. The compact SUV is also less dynamic in its styling, with a more subdued front end that retains the signature light bar and lower-mounted headlamps.

You’ll also note the simpler bottom intake and less prominent bonnet creases, while the sides miss out on the VF7’s flush door handles and swanky C-pillars. It’s much the same story at the rear, which bears full-width taillights and a multi-layered design that culminates in a large black panel. In terms of dimensions, the VF6 measures 4,238 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, 1,594 mm tall and its wheelbase spans 2,730 mm.

Like the VF8 and VF9, both the VF6 and VF7 will be offered with the full cost of the battery included, or with a subscription for battery use that lowers the retail price. Expect the new offerings to be cheaper than their larger offerings, and with all four in the line-up, VinFast will cover the B to E segments.

  • VinFast VF5, VF6 and VF7 EV SUVs debut at 2022 CES – Vietnamese brand now has 5 EVs, fr A to E segments

VinFast VF5, VF6 and VF7 EV SUVs debut at 2022 CES – Vietnamese brand now has 5 EVs, fr A to E segments

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), VinFast brought out a total of five electric vehicles on stage, three of which are new to the portfolio. The new EVs are the VF5, VF6 and VF7, which are joined by the familiar-looking VF8 and VF9.

For a better understanding of VinFast’s EV line-up, we have to turn back the clock a little bit. Back in January last year, the company announced three EVs, namely the VF31, VF32 and VF33. These three have since been renamed to the VF e34, VF e35 and VF e36 respectively.

While the VF e34 is currently only sold in Vietnam (for now), the VF e35 and e36 will be available in other markets, including the United States. At CES, the Vietnamese carmaker decided to market the latter two SUVs in the US as the VF8 and VF9, with pre-orders now open for a fee of USD200 (RM840).

Reserving either will net buyers an e-voucher worth either USD3,000 (RM12,607) or USD5,000 (RM21,012), and as for pricing, the D-segment VF8 starts at USD41,000 (RM172,303) and the E-segment VF9 from USD56,000 (RM235,340). Each comes with a warranty of 10 years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first, with Level 2+ autonomous driving features for the Eco and Plus variants, while Level 3 and 4 is for the Premium variant.

Both SUVs are part of VinFast’s strategy to reach a wider global audience, which brings us to the three new models presented at CES. In an investor update posted in October, the company confirmed plans to expand its EV line-up further, with three new models covering the A to C segments.

The new models are all SUVs and are referred to as the VF e32 (A-segment), VF e33 (B-segment) and VF e34P (C-segment), but for the US market, they will be known as the VF5, VF6 and VF7 respectively. The carmaker only provided exterior photos of these new EVs, so we’ll have to wait for interior photos and technical specifications.

In terms of design, the VF5 has a profile that is reminiscent of the Hyundai Creta and has cues similar to those on the larger VF8, including the distinctive grille, creased bonnet and two-tier headlamps. Meanwhile, the rear has more in common with the even larger VF9, most notably the slim light bar, although there are additional lighting elements in the apron, while a two-tone paint scheme injects some flair.

Moving on, the VF6 also gets similar cues but has a more curvaceous shape overall, with the rear sporting a raked window that leads into a more stylised light bar and VinFast script. Unlike its smaller sibling, the VF6 also gets prominent black body cladding over its wheel arches.

The same is true of the VF7, which is possibly the most stylish of the three new VinFast EVs due to its coupe-like roofline, flush door handles, pinched C-pillars, bold A-wing-shaped front apron and rather aggressive rear end. The three new EVs are expected to be launched in 2023.
