This is crazy. Monster Garage takes a 1951 Volkswagen Beetle Ragtop and dumps in a crazy engine into it, lowers it and preps it for drag racing. The engine is a 2276cc block with 82mm wedgemated DPR crank, 94mm Cima pistons/cylinders, 5.5-inch CB rods, 8.5:1 compression ratio, Engle FK-87 camshaft, Street Eliminators 44×38 heads (ported and polished by Shawn Moore), 1.4:1 Scat rocker arms, 1-3/4-inch header by Shawn Moore, Kennedy 1700 lbs. pressure plate, and a Black Magic clutch disk. Pretty soon a 850cfm Demon carburettor and a Garrett GT35R turbo will be added on to this extreme package. Want to see how it goes? Video after the jump.

Woa, it started off as if it was weightless! The front wheels were lifted in the 1st, 2nd and even maybe 3rd gear.

do y'all know how valuable a beetle from the 50's is here? its basically impossible to find one.. but over there they can just "chop" it up…

the front end of the beetle is actually "weightless" with all the weight centered at the back.. so no worries doing wheelies when you have a real kick ass motor :)

The car was actually "saved",it had been rusting away in a pond for about 20

years. It took a doner car's pan,and lower sheetmetal to bring it back to life.Monster Garage had the best VW guys (racing and restoration)working on the car.On the 1/4 mile track when all was said and done, the car was fast low 11 second E.T.'s.Thanks monster Garage for saving this Beetle. Hey "nissan130Y",here in the "west",we have plenty to do.Some people use their spare tim and money for their hobby. For some people it involves classic automobiles. As "paradoxx" said in his comment,a VW from the 50's is worth saving.Although it has been extensivly modified,it has been saved from the scrap yard.I surpose with a username like"nissan130Y",if they had done something similar to say a Nissan 240Z.Turning it into a Street Tuner Car,you would be more approving ?
