Mercedes Benz still number 1

Mercedes Benz is still Malaysia’s top luxury marque, according to sales figures for the first half of this year. Mercedes Benz sales went up 5%, despite sales in the luxury car segment dropping 17% in the same time period. It’s top seller was the E-class (650 units), followed by the C-class (450 units), A-class (150 units), S-class (100 units) and B-class (100 units). DaimlerChrysler Malaysia Sdn Bhd (DCM) attributed it’s success to it’s extensive product line-up as well as it’s Autohaus showrooms.

It will be interesting to see if this figures change in any way with the introduction of the more affordable CKD BMW 3-series recently. Mercedes also has the advantage over BMW in terms of product line-up, where there are no BMW competitors for models like the A-class and the B-class (shown above).

I think BMW 1-series is the main rival to the A-class,both are entry level for bmw and mercedes respectively. Well ,personally i like the latest A-class and 5 series…paul, does the DCM launch the latest ML yet in malaysia? it is such a great SUV..

i thought the 3 series would be the absolute seller in the marque brands. Eclass doing well though.

while the 1 series does represent entry level for bmw, it is horrible and expensive. its mind blowing to see people buy the 118i.

BMW 3 series used to be a very desirable car but the latest E90 somehow feels inadequate in all aspect. The 1 series is just plain horrible looking. I'm glad I'm one of the statistic for MB to be no.1 after just took delivery of a B170. Way to go MB !!!

Paul, last few days ago, I saw a 2-door hatchback Mercedes Benz on the road, but I can't figure out what is the model. The front is similar to current C-Class, but the rear was nothing familiar to me. U got any idea? Please reply me, eric_lancer@hotmail.com, thanks Paul.

To those of you who had ever been to any AB showroom (esp the Sungei Besi or Glenmarie one), he or she will know where that came from…

BMW Msia didn't get my vote…and I have not regretted getting my 3-pointer!
