New Jaguar S-Type to be called Jaguar XF

xf1.jpg

Jaguar’s mid-sized luxury sedan contender, the S-type will now be called the Jaguar XF. To be built at Jaguar’s Jaguar’s Advanced Manufacturing Centre at Castle Bromwich in Birmingham, UK and set to be released in late 2007, it unifies Jaguar’s model naming conventions – it already has new models called the XJ, XK and the XKR.

No shots of the actual model are available yet, so let’s have a look at the Jaguar R-D6 Concept showcased in the year 2003, featuring an S-type-like grille, and Jaguar’s lightweight structure stretegy. The R-D6 weighs only 1,500kg, light for it’s size, makig it easy for it’s 2.7 litre twin turbodiesel’s 230hp and 500Nm of torque to push it along.

The prototype's design certainly looks attractive. Definitely hailing in new changes in Jaguar's design department, a far departure from their normal bland-ish designs of old.

The engine spec doesn't seem very impressive though. For a 2.7 liter twin turbodiesel, I was expecting more than 230hp. 500Nm of torque is nice though for a car of this size.

Jaguar cars are long described as test rats for Aston Martin. but this is an exception. the bottom looks good.

I am aware that Jag is in deep financial trouble. hoping this proto will be the same as the productions later 2007.

    Super Cool !!

….wonder when my day will come to own a Jaguar…

Just a thought, why not Jaguar make smaller and cheaper cars like what Benz and BMW did ? (A170, 116i).

well will this new model be using the next gen lighting system, the LED for its headlights? if so, its gonna be cool… but the rear seems to be kinda similar to RX-8 le… the opening style of the doors are similar to RX-8's as well…

This has to be the sexiest Jaguar I've ever seen! Very different from the bland usual servings from Jaguar, hope this concept makes it into production.

    Another masterpiece from Jaguar, brilliant…..

Somehow, I still prefer the current S-Type…..

But anyway, this is just the concept……
