Here is a Best Motoring video with a spy footage of the upcoming E92 series BMW M3’s testing laps on the Nurburgring. What a lovely V8 sound. M3 fans will have to the new aural signature that the M3 is going to take though, the signature sports sedan has always used 6-cylinder engines, and the 6-pot from the previous E46 M3 lives on in the current BMW Z4 M Coupe and Roadster.

    If using V8 engine, it may derived from the M5’s V10..
    By refer to the magazine, they compare the previous M3 with new 3series coupe, the new 3series coupe performance is quite comparable to previous M3.. dont know how the performance for this new M3.. it must be great..

    Yes, i agree on that NiceCar, the new M3 should be superb, although i’m into both M3 and Audi RS4, i would prefer the M3 though. I wonder how much would the M3 cost here in Malaysia?

    I dont think bmw would derive a V8 engine for the new M3 from the V10 of the M5. Why? because bmw already has a long history of producing V8 engines. Why reverse engineer a V10 into a V8?

    anyways.. i’m guessing at least 400hp. it needs it if its going to compare up to what the others like audi and mercedes are doing today.

    The new M3 will have a brand new engine derived from the M5’s V10, though they share some of the components, it was reported that the BMW engine boffins had a tough time building the engine and had to revert to the drawing board a couple of times.

    However, the unveiling date of the M3 has been brought forward to keep the steam alive. Apparently in the EU, sales of the 335i coupe has been very promising, something that they did not expect given that the coupe series was never meant to be a big seller. But what they are worried about is that the 335i has so much to offer while retaining the in-line 6 with a pair of turbos and as such, many potential buyers of other junior superleague supercars are beginning to queue for this car, and that includes those whom BMW perceive as M3 buyers.

    Rumors are also beginning to circulate that the BMW camp is already 90% done on the M3 CSL to take on the 997 GT3 and the F430 CS but some officials have denied so. We’ll just have to wait and see….

    But i’m still in love with the RED Audi RS4 saloon that Jeremy Clarkson raced down hill against that one man hill ascend/descend force.

    The 7-speed SMG looks like something nice I could “play with”.

    Though the E92’s design still looks a bit Executive rather than Sporty – even when it comes to the M3.

    But body does look more heavy. From the video, the car remains planted on the ground when taking corners.

    Maybe this will be the true competitor for Lexus IS-F? Heck yeah this is BMW answer to Lexus. Both using V8 and both are equally powerful. Thank you hahaha

    “the signature sports sedan has always used 6-cylinder engines” – Thought I’d remind you that the Original E30 M3 came with a 4 cylinder engine ;-)

    Anyways, If the new V8 sound as good as the E39 M5’s 5ltr V8 it would be awesome.

    I didn’t know that BMW have to answer to Lexus nowadays… he he he…

    Personally, the looks are rather ok however not like an M3 should look.

    looks pretty sharp and the sound it produces is pretty fierce…….

    should be well accepted by the hardcore beemer fanatics……

    body looks means yet aerodynamic at the right places…….

    def wudnt mind owning one of these hard pumping machines…….

    i dont quite like the burble of cross plane v8, imho an m3’s engine should be a flat plane v8 and scream/ shriek all the way to a super high redline, say 9500rpm, i’m sure it’d be a piece of cake for the boys at M division, as it is the prototype sounds too american, when it should be european.

    The E60 M5’s V10 has 500cc per cylinder. To get a 4 ltr V8 they would simply crop off 2 cylinders (figurelatively speaking of course) to get a 4 Litre V8. (for those mathematically challenged ;-) it’s 8 x 500cc = 4000cc)

    Also the M Division would develope & produce different engines to the rest of the mainstream cars so it safe to assume they would derive the M3’s V8 from S85 V10 “screamers” instead of the “lazy revving” N62 series V8s currently in the mainstream cars.
