2008 Jaguar XJ in Malaysian showrooms end-September

Jaguar XJ

While the mid-sized Jaguar S-Type gets an all-new replacement in the form of the sleek new Jaguar XF (E-Class and 5-Series competitor), the full-sized Jaguar XJ gets a refreshed look for the 2008 model year and it will be in SISMA Auto showrooms in Malaysia by the end of September 2007.

This new 2008 facelifted Jaguar XJ recently won the annual Design Award ‘Autonis in the luxury category of the German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport, ahead of German competitors BMW, Mercedes and Audi. The winner was decided by roughly 16,000 readers of Auto Motor und Sport who took part in in voting for the winner.

The XJ continues to use it’s all-aluminium body construction. The aluminium body is said to have reduced the XJ’s weight by 40%. The new front bumper has revised upper and lower mesh grilles with chromed detailing. Behind the front wheels, two power vents match those introduced on the beautiful new XK sports car. The wing mirrors now have integrated signal indicator lights. The rear end has also been reworked with a newly reshaped bumper, subtle aero spoiler and revised tailpipe finishers.

The new Jaguar XJ will be sold from RM648,888, which is just about the price range for a full-sized car here – think S-Class, LS460 and 7-Series. Full model range and pricing details to be revealed later when the car is launched.

If you look carefully, the front bumper seems out of place with the design flow of the car. Maybe its me, or maybe they took BMW bumpers

The facelift must go beyond mere cosmetics, if Jag is to make an impact in the Malaysian market. I believe Jag can still garner a decent market share, in spite o f the appeal of Merc to the towkays.
The mistake that the local agent made was when they obtained the franchise, they overpriced the Jag, and it was only recently that they came to their senses.

Its not an Aston is it? It should have been. Who owns it now? Ford? Unfortunately its Ford US not the UK son. Any wonder why it failed like everything else Ford touches? They can’t even touch their own Focus right. But then Ford never did thought it as truly ‘theirs’. They only like to make big trucks.

But then when I read Yavin’s article in CBT, you feel for the guy who stuck with the big blue all this while.

Well anyway, i like this Jag except for its front bumper.Yeah mystvearn, you got point there. And longjaafar,i concord with you about the selling price in Malaysia. It’s ridiculous as just what has been noted by Paul, within the range of full-sized cars’ tag !!

I don’t have any problem with Jag for preserving their classical kind of design and to me, that’s what Jag should be.This car is evergreen, and those who don’t like its classical looks…don’t worry. This car is obviously not targeting at you. It’s gentleman’s toy.

The biggest problem with Jaguar in Malaysia is the resale value.
I saw one in the auto trader few weeks ago, 1998 Jaguar XJR 4.2 V8 Supercharged going for RM120,000!!!

It cost RM 1.2M when it was new!!

So there you go if you want an XJ buy a used one, the old one looks (if not better) like the new one anyway..

Kimmy Sir, concord with you.Yeah perhaps it’s much better to go for the used one.But still then, the road tax and maintenance expenditure might strangle your coffer for this marque.Probably surpass the Beemers , Merc and the like.I mean in the state of Malaysia..

One thing good about these makes is that even your old model doesn’t feel outdated when the new one comes out.But for new buyers, you’ll be paying a hefty sum for a car that may be mistaken for a 10 year old refurbished one. The people who buy these cars brand new must have so much money that they don’y have to care about the resale value, consumption or maintenance which is definitely much higher than a merc or BM. I have 3 acquiantances who bought jags and they all have at least 5 other cars!!
