Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, a company popular for their SUVs and trucks is putting a firm foot into the opposite end of the vehicle range with their recent acquisition of Engines Engineering S.p.A., an Italian engine design and manufacturing firm.
Mahindra through its unit Mahindra Systech will begin R&D of small and fuel efficient engines for cars such as the Tata Nano and the upcoming Nissan-Renault-Bajaj ULC. Engines Engineering S.p.A. started off designing motorcycles, and some of its motorcycle clients include Ducati, Honda, and Yamaha.
Mahindra did not say if it already had any clients who are looking for small engines or whether it is already in discussions with potential clients, but if there are no takers Mahindra can always build a small car themselves, since it is all the rage now.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
The same fate as MV Augusta in near future.
Is Mahindra making engines for the Nano? I thought Tata and Mahindra are rivals.
Proton also have the same thinking when they first bought M.V Agusta… Good luck to them..
I don’t think you can equate this to Protons buy of MV Agusta
One is a motorcycle company, the other is an engineering company that SPECIALIZES in small engines.
Mahindra’s buy hope for feasible technology transfer of EE S.p.A’s small engine knowhow to produce cheap cars.
I don’t think MV Agusta was ever planned to do the same.
Don’t ever expect Mahindra could control this Italian company.
Just look how long that it takes Proton to have full control on Lotus. They took almost 6 years to achive that, and don’t expect the result is outstanding..
Bad decision. What proton gained after buying lotus was only their brand and the most frequent words they use are “Lotus tune suspension”~~!
And that doesn’t bring any excited to us at all!
Mahathir has look this potential of developing an efficient small compact engine for a car for the past few years. Now Mahindra do the same. That is mahathir’s wisdowm
It’s unfair the paint bad pic to the India company, simply becoz proton failed miserably during aquisition of MV Agusta. Not only that, it lost milions of RM in the process. Those were tax-payers money and no one was accountable, no one had the conscience or balls to admit the problem.
No doubt proton is credited for its VISION in the first place, but it is again, again and again (maybe forever) is bogged down by some phathetic cronies, short-sighted politicians, dumb self-interest groups and the you-know-what and you-know-who, and some “syoik sendiri” people associated with proton. Real sad story to write some more. I dare to say this even I am driving a Proton. you can say that I ain’t being patriotism if you wish.
Anyway, I wish Mahindra all the best with their future plans.
