Renault-Nissan turbocharged 1.4 liter H4Jt engine

The Renault-Nissan Alliance’s new TCe 130 engine is said to combine the best parts of both the European and Japanese halves of the partnership – Nissan’s petrol engine expertise and Renault’s turbocharging and combustion experience.

The new TCe 130 engine is a 1,397cc engine derived from the HR family of engines, which currently consist of the HR15DE and the HR16DE. The HR16DE is no stranger as it is found in both the Nissan Latio and Nissan Grand Livina found in our local market. In Renault nomenclature it is called the H4Jt (Nissan HR14DET?) and joins its Renault-derived TCe 100 1.2 litre turbocharged D4F engine as part of a family of new downsized and force inducted engines for better fuel economy and lower emissions.

The 1.4 litre engine has an aluminium sump and a quick-spooling turbocharger. Its head has been redesigned to feature ports that create a swirling effect in the airflow which mixes the air-fuel mixture more evenly, improving combustion and as a result, torque at low revs. The head also has a continuously variable camshaft angle for the intake. The use of a low-noise timing chain increases durability.

The Euro 5 compliant engine produces 130 horsepower at 5,500rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2,250rpm. It will be used in C-segment Renault cars such as the new Renault Megane III and upcoming MPVs based on the new Megane III platform. No news yet on which Nissans will use this engine.

Look after the jump for photos, a torque graph and a video of the new engine.

You better ask that from Toyota first, they use their old engine for all car.

Hmm, still, the benchmark should be VW’s 1.4 TSi 170hp engine.

It would be interesting if someone manages to shoehorn this powerunit into a Savvy….. Savvy GTi perhaps….

The problem is, its unlikely we will see any of these in our current lineup of nissans as turbo charge powerplants are inherently more expensive. More expensive powerplant = more taxes = more expensive cars.

Its not like the down sized engine is going to make a big dent on road tax savings and fuel consumption, that is if you intend to boot it all the time….it will still consume the equivalent of a 2.0L of petrol on full tilt…..

2 giant companies like renault and nissan, who have been working together since the year 2000, and they finally have an engine like this ready for 2009, and you expect the same thing from tiny proton? its just not a fair comparison.

wow, the torque is equivalent to the sylphy’s 2 liter unit!

thats why people should be looking at, torque, instead of HP HP HP.

torque allows driveability and quick acceleration, HP allows high top speed.

Theres great gap between ‘comparison’ and ‘benchmarking’, more like look into the works then looks in this case, please check on your english first :) lol

bro, you can say whatever you like, but benchmarking also means to compare, maybe you should properly read all the definitions first before you comment.. and your comment “This is what PROTON should be benchmarking, not body kits and facelift.” maybe i’m wrong, but i’m reading your comment as “this is what proton should be doing(coming up with new engines), rather than do body kits and facelift.” you are in fact making a comparison with what nissan and renault has done and what proton has been doing.

besides that, my point has nothing to do with grammar, or english. so you’re missing the whole point of my comment.
