The 2010 Ford Mustang comes with either a 210 horsepower V6 or a 300 horsepower V8 engine, but for power freaks these options look rather anaemic compared to the 422hp 6.2 litre V8 in the new “Bumblebee” Camaro SS, or even the 375hp 3.7 litre HEMI V8 in the Dodge Challenger.
Here comes Ford’s SVT team to the rescue, with the new 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang that puts out 540 horsepower and 691Nm of torque, thanks to larger 5.4 litre V8 engine coupled with a supercharger and an intercooler. The classic Cobra snake badge has been moved from its traditional position to the other side of the grille in order to configure the cold air intake in its optimum position.
Whatever’s under the hood, it sure looks bloody fierce. Just look at the image above, and picture it coming up in your rear view mirror. Those large gaping air intakes could gobble a little Viva hogging the fast lane up anytime! There will surely be many who will pick this based on looks alone in markets where it’s offered.
There are other technical changes as well. The transmission’s final ratio has been changed from 3.31 to 3.55, and while gears 1 to 4 remain the same, the 5th and 6th gears have been changed from 0.80:1 to 0.74:1 and 0.63:1 to 0.50:1 respectively. This allows better performance in the first four gears thanks to the new final drive, but maintaining proper highway ratios for the last two gears for fuel economy. The gearbox’s twin-disc clutch has also been uprated (larger – 250mm vs 215mm diameter) for better driveability and NVH. Wheels are 19 inch forged aluminium alloys wrapped with 19 inch Goodyear F1 Supercar tyres.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
this is the kind of muscle car which can make me totally not bother about what ppl say about muscle cars not having the proper balance of handling to power or sophistication of european supercars as this thing will sell like hotcakes on bloody nice muscle car looks alone…
I’m not sure whether i’m going for muscle car in a economic situation like this, thou i’ve the money.Would rather find something nice to use.
btw, nice design.
american muscle. wil this hit our shores?
This is the perfect example why Ford will lingkup. Introducing a 540hp muscle car which most people cannot buy.
Why would we need this car in these tough times? They should introduce the Lacetti worldwide sooner.
Paul Tan says: Lacetti = GM, not Ford. Anyway, Ford already has decent small cars, the ones they sell in Europe. Quite a different line-up compared to the American cars, but some European Fords are sold in North America under the Mercury brand.

Korek Korek Korek, damn super hardcore…
fyi..
they not selling this car for poor people..
nuff said.
I’ve only sampled the V6 and the V8 before when they were launched.
This beast is in a whole different ballgame. Its not meant to be sold to the masses.
Actually, Mustangs are actually quite affordable. At dollar on par with RM, a base V6 mustang can be bought for what we pay for a base Viva.
A GT500 Coupe you can get for 54K Canadian…… of course you have to factor in the extra 15% GST you have to pay if you are in Ontario…..(oh BTW, we dont have cc dependent road tax either)
540 hp of Detroit muscle….
So is Ford gonna be more eco friendly or what?
“The 2010 Ford Mustang comes with either a 210 horsepower V6 or a 300 horsepower V8 engine”
Correction, the new Mustang GT’s V8 now makes 315hp up from last year’s 300hp. (The standard 2010 Mustang was given the same upgrades as last year’s limited edition Mustang Bullitt)
hope this car will show up in some holiwood movie soon.. hehe
the A8 in transporter 3…
the previous dodge in I am hero..
The previous Shelby GT500 came out in the film “I am Legend’.
