VIDEO: Kia Koup presentation at NYIAS 2009

Kia Forte Koup

Here’s the launch presentation of the new Kia Forte Koup at the 2009 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) earlier this month, just one year after the Koup Concept was unveiled at the 2007 edition of the same show. The Koup is the 2-door coupe version of the Kia Forte (also known as the Cerato and Spectra in different markets).

In the presentation video (which Kia injected a little humour into… did you know the Kia Soul was based on a boar?) we are also introduced to Kurt Kahl, a senior designer at Kia and the man responsible for the design of the new Kia Forte (under the guidance of Peter Schreyer of course), so if you like how the Forte and/or the Forte Koup looks you should check the video out after the jump.

Looks nothing like a civic monkey brain. Although not all cars (within similar price brackets) are entirely ‘original’ in their designs.

It’s nice….. btw, how old is kia? i heard the guy giving the presentation say that kia is a young brand, i think it is almost the same age with p1 right? and look at how far have they gone, look at the tech that they have….. sometime i wonder what is holding p1 back, we have big G as a back up ( in other word, Gov Funded) not many car manufacturer in the world is Gov funded…. maybe it’s just the way malaysian do things, always a lot of red tape. SLOW! I really hope that SYED ZAINAL can really turn things around, malaysian have seen some of his handy work & i can say malaysian agreed with his direction. Build car for the people, think about customer 1st b4 think about what u want, i can honestly say, even TM has brought some good to p1 but he single handedly brought the image of p1 down the drain, starting with quality, design, practicality….. need i say more….. really hope proton can come to par with the korean in the next 5 to 10 yrs…. not sure if it is a realistic target, but as a malaysian who love p1, i really hope they do….

yes! we will come to par in 5~10yrs time. but then KIA will also developed, and advanced more and make better cars within that time too. So, technically, P1 is still behind… Believe me, not even in 2yrs period, KIA will announced its own commercial hybrid. or even sport-hybrid version of that Koup. Many things P1 is still lacking behind Korean car makers. Not to say P1 against any nippon car makers.

just for argument sake, P1 make CPS engine. CPS is similar to VTEC. We got CPS in 2007. Honda gave VTEC circa 1989. CPS churns out 129hp. 1989 VTEC churns out 160hp (standard kilang!!!)…

there is the 4 door which is coming first… later on maybe the 2 door. in anycase, it will be very competitively priced if we have seen naza-kia’s record of always providing higher spec than the competitors and with lower purchase price.

should be an interesting addition to the c-segment here.

just hope that malaysians can look through the badge snobbery of the japanese brands and then this will look like real value.

somehow, i agree with ibabnotorp, but that is what we need to look at, why are we so behind in terms of technology & design when p1 has the BIG G as their back up, i don’t expect for p1 have unlimited budget, in SYED Zainal, p1 has a good direction, it’s just that somehow p1 need to be more aggresive in term of styiling & design, i know p1 don’t have the economic scale to develope car to be par with the korean now, but that is what needed to be looked at. Yes, the world, especially the north american car market is in it’s worst state since i can remember, but they are still the key market, if u can succed to launch a car in the us, u can make it anywhere, just my 2 cent worth, why don’t p1 put 1 monster effort to develope a car that can at least be received in the us, than trust me, it will spur in to any other market easily…. Forget just uk market, we will be able to go to any part of europe & sell p1 like goreng pisang panas……
