This is the new Naza Picanto, just launched by Naza Kia Sdn Bhd a few days ago at The Curve. Yes, this is the CKD Picanto that was previously called the Naza Suria, but now the Suria name has been dropped and replaced by the Kia name, though the Naza badge remains. The Suria name was probably inspired by the Picanto’s Korean market name, which is the Kia Morning.
The most obvious change is of course the aesthetic update to the latest look that has been available from Kia internationally. With the latest facelift in Korea, there were actually two different front ends available but Naza has picked the version with the rounded foglamps to sell here. There is another one with leaf-shaped look foglamps and funkier alloy wheels, probably some kind of special edition.
On the inside, the interior has been updated with orange backlighting for the controls and meter cluster. The meter cluster is complete with an RPM meter but there is no water temp meter. The head unit provided is a 1-DIN design with USB support so you can read your MP3 files off a USB thumbdrive and do away with carrying CDs in your Picanto. The 1.1 litre engine revs up to 6k RPM and puts out a peak of 64 PS at 5,500rpm and 96Nm of torque at 2,800rpm. I like the fact that peak torque is made under 3,000rpm, which is usually the point an automatic car would shift gears if driven gently. But in any case acceleration from 0 to 100km/h will take a long 15.1 seconds.
In terms of safety, the front passenger and driver get two airbags – one each. The airbags are only available on the more expensive EX model. None of the models have ABS. There are four 3-point belts and a lap belt for the rear center. Wheels are 14 inch steels for the LS and 15 inch alloys for the EX, wrapped with 165/60R14 and 175/50R15 tyres respectively. The EX goes for RM46,800 while the LS goes for RM44,500. If you are in the market for one I’d recommend you just go for the EX since you get alloys and two airbags for a premium of RM2,300.
Also note that the Picanto is basically the original car that the Hyundai i10 was based on, and the i10 is sold at a higher price of RM48,888 in Malaysia. But the i10 comes with ABS brakes and a 5-year warranty while from the Naza Kia website it appears the Picanto gets 2 years, though it looks like a (optional?) 2 year extended warranty program is also available. Also, the i10’s CKD packs come from India, while the Picanto’s CKD packs probably come from Korea.
Look after the jump for an E-Brochure and a gallery of the Picanto.

5th picture from the bottom looks like that cute creature with big eyes from Madagascar.
paul
another difference is the i10 has ABS…i also feel the i10's interior is way better than this picanto, this one looks old..
Looks better than the old car , with the ever increasing fuel prices, there's always a demand for small car, our local mag should do a small car shoot-out , this 1 , viva elite and sum china crap car
its meter display boaard not design by vdo…
emm… – 35%
Savvy better sales than Picanto… So?
Naza supposed to bring European small models with diesel or idle stop-go technology in order to CHANGE customers negative perception over Naza or Korean cars infamous for high fuel consumption and relatives high maintenance claim by many of Kia owners on top of poor resale value in this most expensive car prices in the planet.
karl….maybe its the price subject…
bastardised front end of fiat mito
hey this is an import car, lets but this! better than p1.. haha only tiga suku buy this stupid car with 50000 on the tag!
always tke other car, rebadge, touch up a bit here and there and in the end its still the same car without much improvement and sometimes downgrades but the price.. still not so cheap enough.
Old-vehicle move merely to boost auto sale
THE Government’s intention to make tests for old vehicles (10 years or older) mandatory as a requirement for road-tax renewal does not reflect well on the “1Malaysia, People First” spirit.
Who are those using old but still roadworthy vehicles? Retirees, pensioners and the lower-middle income groups as the new or newer cars are priced beyond their reach.
Now, besides the time and money spent on the maintenance of their old faithfuls to keep them in road-worthy condition, the mandatory inspection would be an additional but unnecessary financial and time-consuming burden to them.
Proton Edar Dealers Association Malaysia said the mandatory inspection of old vehicles was a good move and in line with developed countries. And it added that “the scrapping of old cars is important for our automobile industry”.
The bottomline here of this measure is to boost the sale and profits of the automobile industry at the expense of an affordable means of private transport for the lower income group.
The Government should put in place an efficient, reliable and affordable system of public transportation before it opts for policies that will deprive the lower income group of an affordable means of transport in favour of bigger profits for the automobile industry.
Compared to the 2010 Kia Morning, it looks like we are being shafted for a lousy looking 1-din stereo system, non-shiftronic gear, no ABS, lousy & cheap looking dials below the radio, & no water temp indicator ?!
Right, 1 can easily overheat the car without realising it until the engine is on fire, literally.
To top it off, only 2 years manufacturer warranty ?
Way to go naza.
"The EX goes for RM46,800 while the LS goes for RM44,500. If you are in the market for one I’d recommend you just go for the EX since you get alloys and two airbags for the small premium of RM1,300."
Paul, its actually RM2,300 difference.
By the way, the Picanto/Suria is not a stupid car. Do your homework.
I've driven this car for hundreds kms. My comments:
– engine is surprisingly quiet and much refined compared to Proton & Perodua A to B-segment cars
– NVH, ride comfort is better than Myvi (forget about Viva)
– very sluggish acceleration, but can be overcome using overdrive mode when overtaking.
– good FC
– handles like a boat over winding roads if driven fast. But straight highway driving is stable even at 140kmh.
I prefer its cousins, Hyundai i10. Better looks, better refinement.
Heard this is for clearing the last 1000plus unit Picanto, new replacement model is coming soon.
better than maivai 'exclusive edition'
I heard Kia Forte 1.6 SX Basic price will be RM74800 something.2.0L at 94k something.
Can book rite now.
Hyundai – Kia Group will always ensure proper product positioning of the two brands. Hyundai product premium over the Kia …..
Do you know that the reason why i10 was never introduced in Korea was that they were afraid that the i10 would kill Kia's market share in the Kia Morning (Piccanto)…..
Market share of Hyundai in Korea 51%… Market share of Kia in Korea 29% …. without Morning market share Kia will have difficulty staying profitable.
cute car…
i like the 15" rim design…
but sad to say…no manual trans for this FL picanto…
Honda EX5 is better except rain comes. Save more money and buy better car rather this stupid MORON car.
yes, better car but cost of ownerships will escalates… not icnluding lousy after sales and services…the spare parts cost are exorbitant. you purchase at lower price, but after few years your cars cost a bomb to do the required maintenance.
service outsire, will void your warranties…
Like myvi more…….
final facelift i guess
myvi 1.3 auto (full spec with ABS) – RM49700
this one 1.1 auto (without ABS) – RM46800
considering the space, comfirt, fc, service after sales etc. which on you'll choose?
Suzuki Alto headlamps?
myvi sux
this car wasnt assemble in korea. Gurun,Kedah ya.
Cute and practical car BUTTTT… Naza car is veryyyy high maintance.. if i not mistaken, service for NAZA Suria rm200 plus for every 5000km.. Service at 30000 or 40000 (cant remember which) is cost around RM500/600 something.. Can check at nazakia.com.my (aftersale part).. myvi n saga cheaper.. Naza people pls respond….
as usual.. the interior is poor compare wit Kia Morning..
LAMPU DEPAN MACAM MATA KUCING PERSIAN.
AWEK KAT ATAS TU PUN MCM KUCING GAK
i dont like the Naza badge, so ugly, name also sounds like shit……prefer the Kia badge
If household income of RM3000 is considered urban poor, there'll be demand for cars in this price range. However, they'll have to limit themselves to 2 children due to the seatbelt ruling.
i wrapped thhe picanto b4 , too slow or din dare to challenge my 1.2 m
Sorry…I hate Naza Kia..very bad after sales service
Tha car gets a shock treatment!
Wah, no temperature gauge? You won't realise it overheated, until the engine is smoking!! All the best of luck
@kancilrider
most latest cars now dunhav temp gauge anymore.use indicator instead
Naza even using kia picanto ad for this car… But, this car look nice anyway..
warning light and buzzer is a an effective in overheating warning system for people who are too ignorant to glance on meters
viva got no temp gauge wut..but still silly people buy it like goreng pisang..prefer savvy as compact car with affordable price..concern bout the 2nd value of savvy?buy 2nd hand savvy le instead..can get around 20K for 2006 savvy wut..huhu..no need to go to puspakom every year to check until 2016..;P
impresive facelift from kia.hope naza can bring in or manufactured 100% same as this little one.

Wow really??? I have been waiting for it for ages. With that price it will teach waja, vios and city buyers a good lesson. Sat on my relative's in singapore, bloody car for 1.6L got reverse camera, 4 reverse sensor, gps, traction control, ESP, tiptronic gearbox, bluetooth conection, sunroof, ipod and usb connection, automatic headlights and wiper. Man that even shames the toyota Camry and Honda Accord. If for rm 74800, it wil break the bank, definitely….
Oh yeah, for proof got check kia singapore website, www.kia.com.sg and search for Kia Cerato Forte
What a joke the tagline was!!! Guys love cars…that's true but Girls love Picanto? WTF? Dumb girls (only) love Picanto!!! Most girls I talk with only LOVE the minis, the beetle, the golf and the 'i'!! Anyway, that's funny! :-)

NVH, ride comfort is better than Myvi (forget about Viva)
Ive driven the 1st gen original Kia Picanto (not Naza Suria) before. IMHO, its engine it's smoother compared to one of my friend's Myvi. Though Myvi uses toyota/daihatsu tech but its engine is harsh especially on O/D mode.
The one with leaf-shaped look foglamps look better and it's newer as it bears the Kia's Trademark Peter's Design grill.
Btw, Beemer Freak, you're right. Though I've nvr ridden in one yet, but from comparison in the October issue of Torque, the Kia Cerato Forte tops in the competition with the Republic Island's popular Hyundai Avante (Elantra in Bolehland) and Chevrolet Cruze. I think Paul uploaded a photo b4 on a spyshot of Naza Forte (with C2pid NAZA badge) testing in Malaysian road.
In conclusion, Kia cars are good but their quality and assembly sucks/deteriorate when it is locally assembled in Gurun. That's y they haf to put Naza badge, if not memalukan KIA brand only.
checked spelling: grille*
Aww…. d Picanto looks cuter….
Never drove it but quite impressed by d ride quality of is i10 sibbling.
Just cant figure out d need to fill 30% of each page of d brochure wit d chick though. Trying 2hard?
How do you know when this thing overheats ? The temprerature gauge shouldn't be something to be taken off just like that. Its essential right. I know of some local cars that doesnt come with the tachometer meter for cost saving purposes. But..removing the temp gauge is just unacceptable. What's worst, this car is targeted for the ladies. And you know ladies and cars lah..
the merit go for myvi insted of 1.1cc i rather take 1.3cc and less platic-ki then this car but i did admit this look cute after refresh…..ah and the girl with picanto cover of E-Brochure(look alike Maggie Q) hehe

the Forte price at 74800 is the lowest spec don't expect get too much entertainment device in car and 2.0cc is Rm94something rite with that price i'll but old school but damn solid corolla altis juz my 2cent:P
korean cars are not bad at all, comparable to jap cars these days, only problem is the local distributors and tech support sux big time. Korean cars are gaining popularity in singapore btw : )
wow EX goes for 46800, add a little more ull get myvi SXi manual with proper cute design, abs, airbags, as for this, any takers? haha
this is picanto topic…not myvi…
myvi sux and is damn fugly and common see until eye oso pain liao…free oso i dun want.
i think.. let see about the chasis safety?
seems like lately, few myvi brought death?

are you sure? I've driven Naza Ria, from 2003 until now. i have no problem with it. Have u ever had a Naza? and maintain it? i do… and i have no problem with it, infact.. i just bought a Naza Sorento. Yeah again, I'm proud with it.
Btw, u have no right to say stupid naza badge. they did the rite thing.
Very Nice Car But Price a little to high
Nice facelift, but unfortunatelly no changes on the engine. And Naza, why no ABS where the original Kia Picanto has it..???
Ill take savvy anytime…its faster
Girl love picanto. Hahaha. So its girlish car. MyVi also what, but ah beng love it also meh. I thought the name will be Naza Sepetang. Anyway, it is purely a debadged engineering.
WTH……No water temperature, this is funny
It will be better if retain the KIA badge rather than the silly NAZA…
More suitable for female ……
fact of the matter is , if ur buying kia ,the trade in price is simply rediculous….dealers will be happy NOT to take…as simple as that…if u want to commit to cars like those , be prepared to use them for the full 9yrs of loan….otherwise it makes so little financial sence….
for this price range…id go for the saga , more power , more comfort , bigger boot….and 2nd hand prices are still very high
another junk car on the road..
I like model in Picanto E-Brochure hehehe~~~~
Naza Sepetang…nice…
this is my xp using naza (korean & china).
1. naza sutera: worst car ever. cheapskate, ori parts also low quality. high maintenance i.e. parts, service. official service centre also cannot fix prob. no pickup. cost 5 figure to topup during trade-in.
2. naza ria: menang membeli, kalah memakai. so high maintenance, just name it i.e. parts, service charge, cost when breakdown. duh…….
more on korean car?
3. hyundia matrix: cost ever more to topup compared to sutera. result.. cannot afford to sell until now.
personal opinion on naza & korean cars: NO.
I sokong naza ex-user comment. I pity those who listen to the car salesman talk and end up buying the Korean make.
myvi,savvy,picanto..all damn fugly..haha..but if i have no choice, i will rather pick savvy..monster throw away still ok maa..haha..lotus handling really does its job btw..
I have to agree to some comments here. I have seen this Naza Sutera before and i am not impress at all. Interior very cheap stake. You can take of like ligo parts. Cant imagine using after 2nd year, coz maybe rattling sounds all over the place. All i can think of the strategy to change name is that people already know the quality of Naza Sutera..or Naza Picanto or whatever you wanna call it later. Verdict…DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK….
I you don't like this car, better wait next year for 800cc Turbo Hyundai i10 with 90+HP
the old 206 Bestari still look better!
Elvis,
i think you are mistaken. the sutera became the forza and the suria became the picanto. they're 2 very different cars. but it is your choice if you still want to maintain your statement.
Sorry offtopic abit
Before you guys actually buy a KIA Forte, pls pls test drive it thoroughly .
Cause I have driven one in SG before,it was my aunt's fren's car.
Yes,its got 125hp under the hood, its got great looks, its has good ride but I can tell you the engine is HORRIBLE!!
125hp felt like I am driving a 90hp car.Pickup was non-existent,and it felt terrible driving it.
Really, price might be cheap but I suggest you stay away from this Forte.IF you dont mind the serious lack of power,go ahead but regret later..
Anyway,back to topic,
I will take a Myvi anytime over this piece of junk! =)
oh, okay Bro lowprofile…no problem there. Maybe you are rite. But i still prefer Hyundai over Kia. After sales value of Naza/Kia really sucks anyway.

Honda City don't have temp gauge. If overheating occurs a light goes on.
Al buffoni +++ ape kes lak nih komen kete masuk pasal tu lak ko nih kalau nak komen gitu g tpt laen lah… yerkkkkkkkk picato adoi mahei seh ermm stick to malaysian product la better…eeeeee mesti golongan org kaya duit tak reti habis jer beli kete nih…..
Tiadaid,
The Picanto also has a light just like the City that comes on when overheating is about to occur. I too am not keen on this feature being left out too but perhaps it could be Kia themselves not having this feature at all. Just have a look at a Singapore specced Picanto and you will see that they are similar.
Maybe fitting a nice looking aftermarket water and oil temperature gauge may help, plus, it will make make the car interior look a little more interesting too.
this is a cold car. no jacker is interested in this car. no resale value. thats what i love bout kia car. whenever i park this car, im rest assured it will still be there the next day. the problem lies on the expensive parts. most parts are ridiculuosly priced higher than that of even the mercedes benz. cant imgine how this could happen. to get the parts replaced will take u weeks. please test drive this car then you drive myvi. then u know why people buy myvi. its not the ride quality that matter but its resale value. picanto is more pleasureable to drive but unfortunately in a colder segment.
INSIDER NEWS:
NAZOO had choices of this (crap), peugeot207 or the new Kia Forte to launch.
but in some (unfortunate) decisions, they scraped the other 2 and went fwd with this (crap).
those top mgmt in NAZOO must be thinking thru their azzes. and those mktg freaks must be too busy licking those azzes, they cant even open their mouths & tell which model is more likely to bring $$$ for the company.
way to go, NAZOO… go down that is.
savvy still the best…. no doubt….
savvy the best…. no doubt….
better look than old one but not worth at price.
I want to buy a Picanto and want to hear advise from u guys about the spec, safety, fuel consumption, maintanance, etc…please advice..naza and kia people please do reply
Its a good car, please go ahead. I have been using naza suria (similar engine) for 2 years, no any problem. Fuel consumption good, better handling and stability in highway, of course better than VIVA. But heard complain gear box problem, kadang-kadang nasiblah, just maintain a good service and regular change of gear oil to avoid this problem.
Myvi and Savvy all sux!i have a Myvi!Myvi brake problem!my sister and my friend they have Savvy and sell already!Savvy Gearbox problem!trust me don’t buy local cars!
ermmmmm i want to ask you guy….who know about this car….is the sparepart for this car easy to find in malaysia??that all..
just got my naza picanto se yesterday
so how is it?
i’m interested in buying one ;)
