Registered Kia Sorento V6 spotted in TTDI

This new generation Kia Sorento was spotted by reader Kevin near the Naza showroom in TTDI. As far as I know the new Sorento has yet to be launched here in Malaysia yet so this must be some kind of management company car since it is registered with a number plate.

According to Kevin, this particular Sorento had a V6 badge at the back of it, indicating the more expensive petrol model. This generation of Sorento comes with a few engines – a 2.4 litre Theta II inline-4 petrol, a 2.7 litre V6, a 3.5 litre V6 and a 2.2 litre CRDi inline-4 diesel.

The first gen Sorento was sold here as a 2.5 diesel and a 3.5 petrol. Maybe the new Sorento will follow the same. That 2.7 V6 is probably the one in the Santa Fe now.

don’t know if our Euro2 diesel quality is good enough for the CRDI engine. Otherwise, it will damage it.

Now, we are very certain it is a management car (which it is, BTW).

Agree with SS, the rear is ugly. Not classy enough. I saw a white Kia Sorento near my place. The 2.4litre version in Aus costs AU$39,900. Just a little bit pricier than a local Ford Territory but this one has good specs.

I think it will be more expensive than the Tuscon cos the Sorento is one size up. It has three row seats( on some models). If the high spec Tuscon is about RM150k+ then the Sorento would probably come in at RM160-170K+ range. Yes do hope they launch the 2.2 diesel……..very powerful engine for such a small displacement….

This black one’s been spotted in Kg. Baru as well. It probably belongs to Naza factory president and TTDI shareholder Dato’ Haji SM Shalahuddin, the late Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin’s brother. He was known to have used a previous generation black/greyish silver fender flare Sorento as well.

According to Kia Malaysia CEO Nasarudin’s tweets he was asking what people thought of a Cadenza (K7) as his company car so it’s probable he might stash his S500 for hi-fi functions someplace and use a Cadenza as a daily runabout. It’s LHD but what the heck, the driver will have to handle that. Just hope he gets white on white.

lets hope naza keeps to its trend like what it is going to do with the peugeot 3008 and price it below 140k, or else the car would be pointless as people will still stick to the CRV. Trust Naza to give us a good price.

BTW, Paul, will the sorento be a CKD or CBU?

    • Mad Cat on May 14, 2010 at 4:00 pm

Below 140k? Impossible. With a full model change the price usually goes UP, and in this case the new Sorento is a huge deal better than its predecessor.

I own Sorento 2008 model. Its pretty much a decent SUV with adequate power eventhough its diesel. Driving in hiway was an enjoyment but wait until you drive it in country road , ie lumut area where lumpy roads and bumps are visible enough to make your rear passenger vomits. The suspensions are too soft while the body cannot really dissipates vibration. I’ve done many modification to counter those issues and i’m quite happy with the ride. Lots of money spent on it!
The new sorento is Monocouque based so expect the ride to be fun and more sedan characteristic. I’m so used with sorento my next change will be sorento also if money permits.

Surprisingly after clocking 20k the battery still in good condition (touchwood). But during 5k the rear abs sensor fault and replaced by new one by naza. That was after 3 times complaining to NCCC and countless phone calls to the SC.

I think the 2.7V6 was already phased out by Hyundai and Kia. The facelift SantaFe already cancel the 2.7V6 and replace with the 2.4L4 engine and the Sorento only offer 2.4L4 and 3.5V6 for petrol range, both with Dual CVVT.

I do hope they have at least a 2.4, 2.7 V6 and 2.2 Diesel as choice.. or else, only 2.4, with the big body and carry 7 people.. may not be that good, even though 2 of them are kids.. .

I favour 2.2 diesel if can be use in Malaysia.. , but so far, did hyundai have 2.7 V6 which is good ? as most new hyundai engine are 2.4 or turbo, i just afraid 2.7 v6 will be the old hyundai engine.

I hope & pray that they bring in the 2.2L Diesel it is the best choice as far as high power and good fuel economy goes, if so Kia will get my money instead of Tuscan or CRV that I am currently considering buying.

Any news on a release date yet?
