Another brand joins the fray in that very important automotive market known as China. Spanish brand SEAT announces its impending arrival there with its participation at the Shanghai Motor Show, which begins later this week.
The aim, of course, is to establish the SEAT brand among potential customers before sales begin with the export of Spanish-assembled Leon and Ibiza models to the country in 2012.
The brand says it has identified a large demand for distinctive European cars among Chinese consumers, and believes that the timing is right to expand into that key market.
The company says its research shows that Chinese car buyers are a very design-conscious lot, valuing performance and dynamism as well as technology and state-of-the-art engineering, according to SEAT’s president James Muir. Doesn’t sound very different than in most places, does it now?

Can SEAT survive in China without making a sedan? I think the only survivial model from SEAT is Exeo, an Audi A4-sized D-segment sedan.
agreed. for any brand to survive in this part of the world, they need to make sedans and not hatches. this is not europe.

We Proton too…
This is Seat’s last chance to survive as a brand. It has been losing market share in the crowded European market. VW has plans to close it down if Seat unable to improve its sales.
I pity the spaniards, they share the same fate like proton. selling well nationwide, but not worldwide. but without VW to push them forward, they won’t be able to grasp the opportunity to enter the vast China market today.
I wonder if similar chance would be given if VW-proton deal succeeded last time…
