Here’s a small gallery of the Toyota Agya city car, the company’s entry to the Low-Cost and Green Car (LCGC) programme that’s dominating the local automotive industry news in Indonesia. It debuted at IIMS 2012, before going on sale two weeks ago upon the finalisation of the government-led LCGC policy.
The small Toyota will soon be a common sight in Indonesia with a sales target or 5,000 units per month. The country remains predominantly an MPV market, however, with the Toyota Avanza – by far the best-selling model there – commanding a major 20% market share of all passenger vehicles sold (approximately 20,000 units per month).
Affordability will be the Agya’s main selling point, making use of the tax breaks offered under the LCGC regulation. Prices range from just under 100 million rupiah (below RM28,000 at current exchange rate) to 120 million rupiah (around RM33,000) across six model variants: E, G and TRD-S, each with either a five-speed manual or four-speed auto ‘box.
Unlike its cheaper Daihatsu Ayla twin (RM21,000 and above), essentials such as power steering, air-con and dual airbags are standard across the range. A USB 2-DIN audio unit, digital multi information display, 14-inch alloy wheels, foglamps and various chrome bits are added on in the more expensive variants. Top spec, bodykitted TRD-S models are shown here.
The Toyota Agya Daihatsu Ayla is powered by a 1.0 litre three-cylinder engine that makes 65 hp at 6,000 rpm and 87 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. Toyota claims an average fuel efficiency of 21 km per litre, aided by its 740 kg kerb weight.
As the LCGC policy dictates the use of specific Indonesian names, both models carry Sanskrit-sourced monikers. ‘Agya’ means ‘fast’ while ‘Ayla’ translates to ‘light’ in the traditional language. Looking at the specifications, it appears that Daihatsu is more forthcoming than its parent company :)
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Just got back from Jakarta.if Perodua & Proton do not exist,I reckon Toyota and Daihatsu will flooding our road.
And kimchis will be flooding my showroom. Need another 2 Hilux to show the cabbage owners then
I saw ViVa in d making yoo
I saw Toyota Agya
Design quite ok
Please don’t bring it into Malaysia.
Unless high tax is charge on this model, else it will
1. This model will flood Malaysia roads.
2. Proton will continue to make lose of million/billions ringgits.
3. Government will spend tax payers money to save Proton. (Of course the money is not from BN treasury).
4. Minyak naik, GST, increase income tax etc – SCARIEST PART!
Bring or not bring also 2, 3 and 4 are happening.
Yes, but it worsen the situation. Like first stage and third stage of cancer. Big different.
It will cost around 50K in Bolehland when it wear P2 badge….will cost at least 70K when it wear T badge because it contain toyota DNA……your hard earn money gone for this cheap car but so call “premium car” in bolehland
PERODUA is targetting an entry price of RM25k for a variation of this model plus local styling/content, I heard.
Lets pray the government will not interfere with the taxes again.
quite close to the viva in terms of exterior.
Impressive legroom and luggage space for a small car
Looks like Myvi, sounds like Myvi, but it’s not Myvi
it like viva+myvi+mirage=toyota agya
is it true?????
Next viva?
I’m actually quite confident that this is the next perodua viva… According to the usual perodua timeline of a new model every two years, the viva should be replaced this year… However, the new perodua factory is not yet operational
the thing about this car is that it doesn’t conform to the usual kei-car dimensions and engine capacity, which may cannibalize the lower spec myvi.
lastly, I think that the perodua version will have a boot-lid mounted number plate and a dashboard mounted gear-shifter for the auto.
Look like s**t when compared with the above kia picanto
Gonna sell like a Hot cake in Malaysia…
Looks representative.
At least this has dual airbags.
Come on P2 !
I am more worried on crash test evaluation on small car. How at least these manufacturer equipped with minimum safety standard equipment such as airbags, safety crumple zone and side door impact beam. I wish government also look at safety aspect as crucial as the green house effect.
remind me of suzuki alto
this is call people’s car. Toyota always done a very good job. unlike other rubbish car producer.
not sure if anyone else notices this, but the air-conditioning on this car is rather rudimentary with no footwell blower. same case with proton saga, toyota rush & toyota avanza. certainly not on my list as i have sweaty feet. i once drove a rental saga from KLIA to alor setar, and my sandals were drenched. not to mention the stench…
Err..those tail lights looks like those on a Kancil, only abit more curvy
The Hamburger Steering same like mazda and kia! :(
Oh great, another eye sore. Is there a competition for who can design the ugliest car that I am not aware of?
