Mercedes-Benz has released details and photos of the latest S 300 BlueTEC Hybrid – a new electric motor-assisted four-cylinder diesel variant of the latest W222 S-Class. It’s the third hybrid model in the range, after the S 400 Hybrid and S 500 Plug-In Hybrid.
The S 300 BlueTEC Hybrid makes use of a 2.2 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that develops 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque, paired to an electric motor rated at 20 kW/27 hp and 250 Nm. The results are astounding: 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, 240 km/h top speed, 4.4 litres per 100 km (combined) and just 115 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
The same engine, sans the electric motor, has been used in an S-Class before – in the previous-generation W221 Mercedes-Benz S 250 CDI. That car’s 6.6 litre per 100 km claim – class-leading when new – is now matched by the new W222 S 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC with its powerful 258 hp/620 Nm 3.0 litre turbodiesel motor.
With the addition of these two model and the recently-announced S 600 and S 65 AMG flagship V12 variants, the W222 S-Class range now boasts 16 different versions (including combinations of short and long wheelbases, rear-wheel drive and 4MATIC) mere months into its international market launch.
As for Malaysia, we should be getting the latest S-Class in the next few months. We’ve already spotted the S 400 Hybrid and S 500 models here, so expect the same two variants to make up the W222’s local launch lineup.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
every auto-manufacturer seems to go for the 4-cyl, turbocharged powerplant these days
Except for the almighty underpower CFE..
CFE is turbocharged
LIGHT Pressure Turbo is like sissy turbo. That does not count.
This car should be brought in with all the EEV bullshit the government is promoting. Why bring in the S300 and S350?
I won’t be surprised if MBM uses the previous generation of engines for its entry level S Class.
But I do wonder how how much they will price it if they get the EEV incentives from the government…hardly doubt it will dip under the RM600k mark
If only we have EURO 4 diesel….But then the government is always much wiser and smarter than us. So that’s why we do not have good clean diesel..
Not just clean, efficient as well. Sigh, we can only dream.

V12? :P
European direction is always about efficiency and is expensive. To get the car cheaper, just change the driver side from right to left, then we get plentiful choices of cars at much cheaper cost for all…
This is expected from Benz. It’s already announced by Benz since at least 5years back bout this small displacement engine, Diesel OTTO
