The MG brand has made its Thai debut at the ongoing 2014 Bangkok Motor Show, where nine MG6s are on display at the exhibition. The car is scheduled to get its full market launch in June.
Only one engine variant has been named for the Thai market, a petrol version equipped with a turbocharged 1.8 TCi-Tech four-pot, with 161 PS at 5,500 rpm and 215 Nm at 1,750 to 4,500 rpm for numbers. While it’s sold in the UK with a five-speed manual transmission, the Thai version is set to be equipped with a dual-clutch transmission.
The brand, which is owned by Chinese automaker SAIC Motor, will be represented in the Kingdom by MG Sales Thailand, a subsidiary of the holding JV company set up by SAIC and Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Group. A network of 30 dealerships nationwide is close to completion and is scheduled to begin operations within the second quarter of 2014.
The Thai-market MG6 will be locally assembled at the new SAIC/Charoen JV assembly plant at the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in Rayong, which has been built to cater for RHD production for Thailand and ASEAN markets.

Any news of MG coming to Msia?
federal auto signed an MOU with MG some time back (see link below). wonder what is happening there. anyone with news on the current status?
http://paultan.org/2013/04/12/mg-brand-to-be-revived-in-malaysia-as-federal-auto-enters-into-mou-with-chinas-saic/
It’s CD-Segment with C-Segment price, 1.8 turbo engine, 4 and 5 doors. I think it’ll be exported to Msia soon because MG6 has its new assembly plant in Thailand in order to be a new comer to local to regional market. The capability of new plant in Thailand to assemble right-hand steering MGs starting around 50,000 cars a year and will be expanded to 200,000 cars annually.
Sounds like a clone of the Passat… does it have a dry DCT again? oh man…
the model is much tastier than the car…hmmmm
BRB… :p
hmm…china car with british pretentions….same like
MINI
right now Thailand and Indonesia is a much better market than Malaysia… nice car though but why dual clutch for asean market when they’re selling da 5speed manual at UK???
A China made junk by any other name is still a Chinese junk… The British may have a long history in car building, but their workmanship is laughable in today’s context. No one can claim MG/Rover as world class vehicles.
This MG overall styling (or the lack of it) is still very Chinese like. The boot lines looks very wonky. Those early 2000s Altezza taillights looks so dated in today’s world.
And like many Chinese pirated cars, you can big car with tiny wheels… machiam Toyota….
its a good car for its price in china. see them frequently on the road~ frens bought it around RM55k after discount and lots of freebie for the 1.8L DC. consider poor man car in chinese market but i find it attractive~
Between the various Chinese brands, I am most inclined to support Chery because they chose Malaysia as their ‘base’ in ASEAN. It’s too bad MG chose Thailand, for 2 reasons; 1) Thailand is absolutely dominated by Toyota, Nissan and Honda. Even Hyundai and Kia can’t sell there. And 2) If MG chose Malaysia for ASEAN assembly, they would fare much better in sales because they wouldn’t the excise taxes like the Thai-made Corolla Altis. When MG comes to Malaysia, it will be too expensive to be price-competitive. Oh well.
Need better engines to attract buyers. Name alone doesn’t count for very much.

hahahaha nissan 370z pulak
DCT for Asean?I rather take that than 5 speed manual…Unless its a 6 speed manual.Probably UK market is turbo diesel..But suspect the petrol is just a single type hence the lower rating 1.8 159hp@5500rpm/215nm@1500-4500rpm
Federal auto :
You are up next, tell us all the details?
Maybe SAIC should consider bringing this car to the Malaysian market? We need more European brand in the C segment..
MG Rover is bothered by erratic gear box .poor overall reliability proved to be a stumbling block for reentry into Malaysia or India market. Think YB Anwar Ibrahim has one . Seen him in dark green MG many time before.
