Renault Malaysia has just released these two videos, showing the new Renault Clio RS 200 EDC setting an impressive 2:48.001 lap time around Sepang. If it doesn’t look all that fast and/or exciting, trust us, it is. The ultra wide, 5.543 km track has a tendency to make anything with less than, say, 400 or even 500 hp look and feel underwhelming.
The lil’ one’s time is within five seconds of the lap Singaporean racer Denis Lian managed with the Megane RS 250 Cup in 2010. The Clio’s bigger, more powerful brother set a blistering time of 2:43.02 on standard tyres, before improving to 2:38.16 when Denis had another go in 2012, this time with semi-slick rubbers.
Watch the second video to hear the driver describe how the hot-hatch feels on track, and how it compares against the car it replaces and the Megane RS 250 Cup. And yes, he talks about the dual-clutch EDC automatic gearbox too, so have a listen if you harbour any doubts on the new car’s two-pedal configuration.
What is apparent is that, despite being a more grown-up vehicle (with its softer suspension setup, no manual transmission option and five- rather than three-door bodystyle) than past Renaultsport models, the latest Clio RS remains an accomplished road racer. Any takers, for RM172,888?
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
thanks. i will wait for fiesta ST.
It all goes down to price point. Unless the Fiesta ST is cheaper than the 208 GTi, i still think the GTi is the car to buy in Malaysia. If you notice all the hype around the other countries for the ST also clearly weighs on the pricing. Tell them that the 208 GTi is GBP2k cheaper than the ST and the story may be different. A small part of me is just hoping SDAC brings the Fiesta ST cheaper than the 208 GTi (Highly unlikely)
I couldn’t agree more with you on the popularity of the Fiesta ST around the world. Reason it has been rated highly was not only because it was good fun, but its also the cheapest of them all. You cant go wrong with those formula in Malaysia.
Now in Malaysia, if you’ve actually sat in both the 208GTI and Fiesta ST which both was on display at KLIMS, you would have noticed that the Fiesta ST which we might be getting has only fabric Recaro’s (leather for other countries). It didnt even come with the Sony infotainment system and not to mentioned no DRL’s as well. There could be more but these are the things I noted so far. Point is, so many items omitted yet its gonna be more expensive than the GTI. The ST in Malaysia looks like an expensive, cheap looking fun car now as opposed to being cheap and fun.
So there is no arguing that IF the Fiesta ST is more expensive, the best hatch option in Malaysia will most definitely go to the GTI.
Simply put: Fiesta ST has the best bang-for-buck ratio in most (worldwide) buyers’ mind. Whether or not that will be the case here, depends a lot on SDAC pricing. The 208 GTi have lowered the entry price to warm hatch ownership and set a bar all upcoming hatches will be measured against.
it would be unfair to determine the car just by price…the 208 gti is ckd…it should be cheaper…i doubt the fiesta ST would be CKD
hot hatch = manual
this car is overpriced!
unfortunately fiesta st is gonna be another overpriced car! sad but true…
with this price, I might as well buy mazda 6 sedan full spec by adding a bit…
Renault now utterly rubbish, even in F1 their performance is below other 2 engine manufacture.
Just a waste our Proton had invest so much in Lotus F1 team.
Ayo, see singaporean can’t drive for shit. So slow.
Sam Loo can tapow this guy using his hilux with one hand driving lar.
Now before you french gay lovers start shooting sam loo, don’t forget, this renault will breakdown even before turn 1.
That’s why Toyota rocks. :)
What da’ heck r u talking abt? How could it breakdown b4 turn 1 when it actually finish its lap time?! OMG…
What makes you think the video can’t be faked ?
I tell you lar, on that day, i have to use 20 tow trucks just to shoot part by part the video of this renault. Coz each turn, the renault goes, their robotic gearbox konk.
See Maserati, now his wife also don’t want to follow him anymore coz he bought a stupid car for his wife.
His wife already work as my part time sexytary sit in my aircon hilux.
Great but it does not mean that it is still overpriced
**Great, but still overpriced
I like the new Clio…. but I like the Fiesta ST even more !
Still if Proton made a new Satria GTi, I bet that’ll be just as epic thanks to Lotus.
Good…sepang is becoming like nurburgring wer manufacturers record their best times to compete..
Nasim should arrange for same things for their 208GTi…. let’s see which one faster around Sepang.
Baru panas…
jual to singapurarian la…
satria neo supercharged, it’s your cue now.
I really hope that one day, Proton will produce a really hot version of Satria Neo with at least 200hp.
They are cathing up quit well i guess..specially the new suprema pumped up version wasnt that bad…
If I really a Performance hot hatch in future Prefer at least 200BHP:
1. VW Golf GTI
2. 208 GTI
3. Ford ST
4. This Clio RS
No point. No resale value.
Reliability is shit for all the cars you mentioned.
Better drive myvi…lagi power lagi best.
I assume you’re just trolling, but hey why not let me explain.
I don’t think people who buy such cars thinks about resale value that much or reliability.
Those who buy performance cars; they’re passionate and think of cars as more than just a mode of transportation.
Well i agree with farizY. I own a VW GTI for years now and i have driven 208GTi in europe as well as Clio R.S. I must say i was impressed with the clio specially with the comfort which comes with the performance which is missing in my gti.
RS monitor which u dont have in gti or 208gti or fiesta. TRY IT OUT GUYS before blame on the price.its the perfect device that any RS/GTI lovers always wanted
Common guys, we dont talk about the resale value if we want to buy an R.S or gti. And price..as a cbu unit i think its reasonable compare to my gti or others if i do apple to apple comparison.
Weekend hot hatch? Yes Please!
I am very new to the this blog but hey guys, we shall look in overall and true perspective over the cars instead just give our rationale based on own thoughts only(even without test the cars).
All this cli, 208 & fiesta is good and they have their own specialities which will attract its own customer right??
i believe lot of govertment and tax factors is realted when anyone brings in CBU units..so we shall encourage these guys at least for their efforts to bring these hot cars in Malaysia…
No harsh feeling ..just my sharings:)
