April is going to be a busy month for BMW Malaysia, it seems. We already know of the F15 BMW X5’s arrival this week, and it now looks like the 2 Series Coupe will make its local debut shortly too, to go head to head against the freshly launched CLA. “The rebel of the family will be unleashed soon, very soon!” says the teaser on BMW Malaysia’s Facebook page, accompanied by the photo above.
A recap for those not in the know: the F22 BMW 2 Series Coupe is basically a sporty, two-door coupe version of the F20 1 Series, much in the same way that the F32 4 Series Coupe is a more dynamic F30 3 Series with less doors. BMW goes a step further still, claiming that it’s an extension of the classic BMW 02 range, hence them being pictured together here.
In international markets, the F22 is available in 218d, 220d, 225d, 220i, 228i and M235i forms. The diesel and M Performance models seem unlikely to reach our shores (at initial launch, at least), leaving the 2.0 litre BMW TwinPower Turbo pair of the 184 hp/270 Nm 220i or the 245 hp/350 Nm 228i as plausible candidates. Both are paired to an eight-speed auto’box, and can get to 100 km/h in 7.0 and 5.7 seconds respectively.
As for which of the four trim lines – standard, Modern Line, Sport Line and M Sport, each with unique exterior and interior design cues – will be offered here, your guess is as good as ours. We’ll have more details as they come. For now, do read our international launch report for everything there is to know about the new F22 BMW 2 Series Coupe, then read our test drive review of the M235i.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
I prefer the old orange BMW
then you can buy toyota vios.
vios got better rv and better warranty. plus vios generally go faster on highway than bmws cos owners got giant ballz.
BMW Malaysia, no point launching so many models. Concentrate on your existing customers who are suffering with so many electrical and mechanical problems.
BMW Malaysia is the only car company in the world (not just Malaysia) to offer a mere 2 years warranty.
All other car companies have increased to 5 years. Even Proton and Perodua themselves have done so. BMW’s arch rival Mercedes has even upped it to 4 years.
This clearly shows that BMW has no confidence in their own products. So many customers have their gearbox failing just right after the 2nd year warranty finishes. They have to cough out RM80,000 from their own pocket just to replace the gearbox. Besides gearbox, every BMW customer has to pay through their nose for warranty claim parts after the 2nd year.
I’d reckon the Sport and M sport line will make it through. They should consider the 2 series sedan, to go against the A3/CLA though.
should be sport only. m sport pay an additional 20k to 30k or something like that.
better buy 125i m sport.
The M235i price overseas is cheaper than the A45 AMG but it might be more exp here due to it being a coupe?
Also am interested to see how they will price the 220i if it’s coming and whether we will have a M-Sport kit as option along with the adaptive suspension. If the basic 220i is under RM280k then we got a winner here.
it will be more expensive due to being a 3.0l vs the A45 which is a 2.0l
Proton should consider a Putra Replacement Model, then can put the old Putra side-by-side in their advertisement like BMW.
Didn’t expect that comment to appear.
Hopefully, it would have a longer warranty than 2 years.
the only way bmw malaysia would announce such a thing would be today. as an april fool’s joke!
please bring the diesel version, 218i its just good enough i think
218i is not diesel.
They should bring in the diesels.
very unlikely, bmw wants to milk super profit from this as its not a volume car
The 2 series is going to sell a butt load. But not this 2 series. It’s the 2 series active tourer. So get your act together and give us a B class competitor already.
if they really bought in the 228i…it would be awesome…
One SA told me its 260K but I’m not sure which exact model it is
30k higher than the CLA? sounds about right. more powerful engine mah. but sounds a bit too good to be true also. then again why not do the sensible thing ave the 30k and gain an additional 2 doors and 2 years warranty when you get the CLA?
i dont understand why cant they price under 200k.
2 series >200k the same as 3 series. then what is the point selling the 2 series.
its like selling 80k saga compare to 70k preve
even the 1 series is 200 plus..what a ridiculous..
why cant put under 200k, 190k also a nice figure to see..
must be cbu.. tax structure is not the same compared to CKDs like 3 series
