Would you look at that – Chinese website autohome.com.cn has not only furnished leaked pictures of the B8 Volkswagen Passat (called Magotan in China), but also of the production version of the Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe (NMC) concept, which had only just been shown at Auto China in Beijing!
The images show a car that is practically unchanged from the concept, losing only the showcar-spec LED head and tail lights (gaining some current Passat-esque items instead), front and rear bumper detailing and enormous 22-inch alloy wheels (replaced by smaller split-spoke wheels).
The interior, on the other hand, is similar to the Mk7 Golf, with the flat-bottomed multi-function three spoke steering wheel, the driver-oriented centre console and much of the switchgear. The head unit on this model appears to be the RCD 320 unit also seen on our locally-assembled Jetta and Polo models – higher trim levels in China will likely receive the large-touchscreen units from the Golf.
Expected to be based on the VW Group’s modular MQB architecture that will also underpin the next-generation Jetta, the production NMC will reportedly be powered by the familiar 2.0 litre TSI four-cylinder mill from the Golf GTI, mated to the six-speed DSG transmission, although other engine and transmission options such as the 1.4 TSI engine and seven-speed DSG transmission could also be on offer.

All range looks the same. Might as well use series instead of different name for each model. Even though BMW use series for its car, they still have distinctive design for each model.
A MQB sedan? Is this new VW Jetta? Why called it coupe?
Judging by the design profile, this is not meant to be a baby VW CC as some might have predicted (lacking more curvaceous CC profile). This is actually the new generation VW Jetta! And don’t be surprised the production car could be launched worldwide sometime end of this year. Like it or not ,the current Malaysian-market Jetta looks too outdated already..
