The Ford Fiesta is now the UK’s best-selling vehicle nameplate of all time. Total sales topped 4,115,000 this month, surpassing the Ford Escort, which sold 4,105,961 in the UK from 1968 to 2000.
First launched in 1976, the Fiesta has led the small car segment in the UK for 27 of the 37 years and has been Britain’s best-selling car since 2009 when it overtook the Ford Focus.
Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain chairman and MD, said: “The Ford Fiesta has gone from strength to strength and today’s car combines style, value, driving dynamics and remarkable technologies such as the multi-award-winning 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine. It continues to outsell its nearest retail competitor by more than two to one – and that really tells the story of this extraordinary car.”
Ford says that over 40% of Fiesta buyers in the UK choose the 1.0 EcoBoost, and almost 90% opt for higher level specification – Zetec (most popular, £12,945), Zetec S, Titanium, Titanium X and ST models.
In Malaysia, the Fiesta facelift is available with two engines – the 1.5 Ti-VCT and the 1.0 Ecoboost. The 182 PS Fiesta ST hot hatch will be coming later this year. There’s a Raya promo offering up to RM10,000 in rebates for the Fiesta now, so this is a good time if you’ve been eyeing one.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Cheap and cheerie there.
While this car is the top seller in the UK, becareful in Malaysia. This is dual clutch but the notorious dry clutch.
This is the same clutch like VW DSG dry clutch. VW said that the DSG dry clutch cannot be used in hot countries and bad traffic jams.
This is the same for Ford Fiesta here. Ask any previous owner of Ford in Malaysia, gearbox failing is a normal thing. It is okey if under warranty, but after 5 years you better panic. Because the gearbox alone is about RM40k.
But the difficult thing is when you gearbox rosak, Ford Malaysia, takes about 3 months to replace it. For 3 months, they will hold your car. For 3 months you will have to take the bus.
That is not just for the gearbox. Nearly every other part, 3 months is a normal wait. This is the main complaint about Ford in Malaysia.
Becareful of these 2 elements. Go and check yourself online and forums what owners have to say.
Other than that, the car is beautiful to drive. Very continental feel. But is it worth all the tow truck waits? I have sold both my Fords. No more Fords for me.
Some people will bash me for saying this because I am a hardcore manual transmission lover. SDA can avoid disasterous after sales service on gearbox by simply provide conventional manual transmission and if possible make it as standard equipement rather than the 6-speed Powershift DCT as a sole transmission option. Those buyers who are aware of dry clutch Powershift issue still can buy Ford vehicles by choosing manual transmission.
However, like most of the big authorised car dealers in this country, SDA opted not to do so because of the pathetic reason, not feasible in sales. Instead it continue to provide only Powershift and use the warranty period and free service to “give assurance” to buyers.
+9000
Manual, the way it’s meant to be. Robust, efficient, fast, freedom, fun. Superior transmission in every single way save for heavy traffic.
Cars like Fiesta are not that problematic in Europe, as they’re mostly manual. Autos are rare in this category, they will think you’re either handicapped or foolishly lazy.
You are right. Our older cars are all manuals and there are no breakdowns. Every 80,000 km or so we change the clutch plate, pressure plate, bearing and replace the gear oil and it is as good as new.
The main “complaint” is still about being caught in a traffic jam in a manual transmission car.
My current ride is a manual.
You are right! Reliable is always key concern having a car.
So many people (especially the Proton fanboys) bash on Toyota 4 speed auto gearbox. Yes, it is old design, but it is also very very reliable and fuel sharing.
Our human body also hundreds thousands years old design, but it could last longer than any modern car you name it if you take good care of your health.
Of course manual gear is the most reliable.
It’s ludicrous msians would spend hundreds per month to become “fit” at gyms, but reluctant to save money and “work out” during traffic jams.
In fact, auto is so much more expensive than just the car cost. Haven’t factor increased fuel consumption, more expensive parts need replacement more frequent, more time wasted, more breakdown as fiesta owners been complaining, more stress dealing with rude, lansi sdac staffs, etc.
All because don’t want to workout in car, rather “workout” in expensive gym. *clap clap*
My manual Volvo 240 gives similar fc as my saga 1.5 auto. Not bad despite bigger n heavier car.
‘This is the same clutch like VW DSG dry clutch.’
Ford is using VW’s DQ200 gearbox? I thought Ford is using the ‘PowerShift’ gearbox made by GETRAG?
http://www.getrag.com/en/products/powershift/powershift.html
Yup, ford using powershift made by GETRAG while vw dsg are made by BORG WAGNER.
VW’s DSG is made by Borg Warner. Ford’s Powershift is made by Getrag, Germany.
not that cheap…the cheapest 1.0 ecoboost manual (100PS variant) is bout £13,445 (~RM72k)without city active stop, 16″ alloy rim, cruise control, spare tyre, driver seat lumbar support, perimeter alarm, front/back parking sensor, satnav…
Yup,
Its cheap. When fresh grad salary is about 3k GBP, 13K is only about 5months salary.
I’ve seen job openings for managers in the UK offering only annual salary of GBP 27K (which means around 2.4K per month) so are you sure?
I don’t know where you got GBP3k grad salary from. You’d be lucky to get 25k/annum fresh out of uni and that’s before you lose over 20% to the taxman.
wrong facts by Taro..
u forget bout income tax, vat, food, house, utility, petrol..u just assume the salary they get..in reality it is different..
don’t just assume it is cheap..go n check urself..
Why it couldn’t be cheap in Malaysia?
You know I know everyone know!
Cheapie and cheerie there. No wonder.
Ford is King of RV Repreciation in Malaysia. British people are very used to RV dropping because car is cheap in UK. They don’t care if today buy 12,000 pounds, tomorrow, the price drops to 6000 pounds. They don’t care because gaji in UK is so high. Most people buy this car with just 6 months pay outright with no loan.
Malaysia, we all have to buy loan. Cause Rm100k is a lot of money to us. But what do we have to do when the RV jatuh so much? It is no secret that Ford RV in Malaysia is the worst ever.
2013 ford Focus, from RM115k brand new, can hardly be sold for RM65k. So, who is going to top up your loan?
Same person?
for real? too good to be true…or u assume
Provide us the link of 2013 ford focus selling for 65k or you are talk cock! Sendiri talk sendiri syiok!
Congratulations. :)
The Fiesta is Ford UK’s cash cow now, even the Focus and Ka can’t even compete with it.
Though I’d say even the Golf would give the Fiesta a good run for this award.
fiesta DCT reliable or not? thinking to get one for my wife
Very reliable. I have 2 friend who owns a Fiesta, both gearbox kong within 1 to 2 years.
But i am very sure it is isolated case. You can proceed to buy with confidence.
I have one, my first car, since Nov 2010. Mileage now is almost 110000km. Only issue I ever had was the outside air blocking thingy didn’t function properly and needed 3 visits to the SDAC workshop to get it fixed. Other than that, the car behaved just the same since day 1.
In bad traffic, I just let the car creep forward, there’s no need to stab the accelerator and brake like a rally driver.
lol, I realised that too and the car doesnt jerk anymore.
Always shift to neutral during long stops with engine running. Powershift GB is very different from conventional torque convertor autos although both GBs change gears automatically.
I bet most of da sales r manual rather than dualclutch nonsense….
nabill, manual transmission is standard equipment across all variants for Ford Fiesta in UK. 6-speed Powershift only available in variants of 100ps of 1L Ecoboost and 1.6L Ti-VCT engines.
So, British buys Ford Fiesta majority will have the manual transmission equipped.
yes, I wish I can have the manual version too.
Me too wanted the manual transmission for Fiesta across its variants.
Unfortunately for SDA and other major car dealers, manual transmission equipped cars are sales bombs to them (similar to movie bomb). If they really provide manual transmission variant for their cars to sell, only the entry spec will be provided and sales persons are trained to promote buyers to go for higher spec of the cars, trying give impression to buyers that manual transmission equipped cars are very cheap.
As long as its not a kimchi, it will have RV
Ford Fiesta 1.4 (pre-facelift model) is manual is it?
