The Hyundai Elantra Coupe is no more, after just two years in the American market. A Hyundai Motor America spokesman told Edmunds that the coupe model has been dropped from the line-up, so that the company can focus on the Elantra sedan and Elantra GT (known as the i30 here). That’s PR-speak for unsustainable low sales.
Too bad, really, as it’s quite a handsome car, isn’t it? Designed at Hyundai’s North American Design Center in Irvine, California, the Elantra Coupe was most recently updated with an uprated 2.0 litre direct injection engine with 173 hp and 208 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
So with the Elantra Coupe down and out, that leaves the fast-shrinking entry-level two-door market in the USA to the Kia Forte Koup, Honda Civic Coupe and the Scion tC. Closer to home, we don’t get any of these models, with only the second-gen Kia Koup looking likely to arrive in the near future. But will there be a market for it? Over to you, dear readers.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
whats the point of a sporty coupe if it drives no better than the 4 door version
Well, Beetle is 2-doors but I think they are doing all right.
I do see some Kia Forte Koup on the road, don’t know how they get it.
2-door cars not good for people who go drinking, those sitting behind can’t wind down window to vomit
you saw forte koup or cerato koup bro?
They can try to license it to Proton and rebadged it as Putra Neo.
As expected Junk Coupe nobody want now stop production, soon more & more Junk Korean car will end up the same…Muakakaka
Unsustainable Low Sales…ROFL
Sissy faggot car.
Last time the 2-door versions of cars looked, and performed, better than the 4-door versions. 4-door versions were always more comfortable, more sedated.
You could pick a 1.8-litre, econobox Honda Civic 4-door, or go with the sexier 2.2/2.3L Honda Prelude 2-door. How, a 4-door car can easily outperform some old 2-doors.
Now 4-door versions also look sporty, with the more swept-back rooflines. And chock-full of the better engines and parts, jump-started by cars like the M3 and M5 sedans.
This one will end up like KIA, cannot even be traded in
Trade in ?? I will end up in chopped shop sales as spare parts for current Elantra Driver…lol
Kia second gen koup i heard that it will arrive soon last year untill now
I am also waiting, but no hear any news that the 1.6 T-GDI Koup coming in, even asked the Naza Group Facebook side also no plan yet. Hoping they do bring in as looking forward to get one in future, if not have to op for second hand.
side profile is a bit out of proportion, but other than that it’s a handsome looking car. sad to see her go. sigh~
The problem with entry level 2 door coupes is that the market they built for has evaporated. The market grew up. We moved on to sedans and SUVs.
Back in the 90s in college, everyone had one, The J bodied Pontiac Sunfires and Chevy Cavalier, Honda Civic, Chrysler Neon and the slow selling Ford Escort coupe. They were often the cheapest cars you can buy. Even Toyota tried with the Paseo and Hyundai with the S-Coupe. I’m sure I missed a few.
This generation seems more preoccupied with smartphones and social media. Back then, we actually had to drive up to meet friends so a cool car is nice.
Its no longer that cool to have a sporty coupe. People get the same kicks now with a new Apple product.
Not to mention that coupes are relatively more expensive than the base models now compared to back then.
2 doors salon size car will not do well in Malaysia. Current trend are more towards design and functionality. That’s why it’s not doing well in the US. Unless there is huge differences compare to it’s 4 doors brother.
