New Ford F-150 Raptor: 450 hp, 10-spd auto confirmed

ford-f150-raptor-009

The new Ford F-150 Raptor caused quite a stir when it debuted at the Detroit Motor Show a few weeks ago. This is one hell of a truck, it seems. It looks like no other – with properly blistered wheel arches all around – and we now know it’ll go like none other too.

Ford Global Product Development Vice President Raj Nair has just confirmed over a TV interview with Fox Sports that the Raptor’s twin-turbocharged 3.5 litre V6 EcoBoost engine will make all of 450 hp. That’s more than the outgoing truck’s 411 hp – from a naturally-aspirated 6.2 litre V8.

Pair that to the latest F-150’s significantly lighter aluminium body (by as much as 227 kg, no less) and a brand new 10-speed (!) automatic gearbox and it’s sure to be an absolute beast to drive. Now you have to wonder – how wild would the rumoured Ford EcoBeast be?

3.5L truck.. now THIS roadtax can be viable in Malaysia… (compared to the previous ridiculous 6.2L). Now all I need is a RHD version and you can take my money!

The truck probably has more than 500NM of torque (just estimation) at very low rpm. So 10 speed gearbox is a bit overkill. But still, 10 is pretty impressive. Plus that 227kg diet, is icing on the low fat cake.

Make this RHD and ship together with Mustangs to Malaysia Then I will spend my cash for a truck. I’m not looking for rattling diesel powerhouse with stiff metal-leaf springs to tow a boat, I need an high performance offroader with magic creature comfort to ferry clients to project site. This Raptor just fit the bills.

Ford Malaysia, if you can bring this to Malaysia as part of global one car strategy, this will sell at least 50 units per month, judging from the number of current truck owners looking to upgrade from their standard trucks : Hilux, Ranger, D Max, Navara, Triton, Colorado, BT50.

This will blow the market away for high end truck enthusiasts.

The V6 EcoBoost is good enough for Malaysian road. And I just read an article saying that Mustang will be in Malaysia by the end of this year. Am I right?

When it comes to pickup truck, no need eco-boost. Re tune and retag it to become Turbo boost. Better if the engine is turbo diesel. Should be power based not economy based. Transmision wise, 5 to 6 speed manual is paramount.

In this segment, ppl who is gonna buy it will not care how much it saves, they care how well it will perform in extreme conditions. Same applies to its transmission, whats the fuss of 10 speed transmission? It should be applied to city based car. For pickups, you will need reliability and simplicity that works every time. 10 speed transmission is really complex and hard + expensive to maintain and it will have failures more often than those sturdy and reliable 6 speed manuals.

That being said, i like its exterior design very much. That amount of manliness is over 9000!

Those big prime mover trucks have 12, 14 gears, can be bullet proof reliable.

But yeah, nothing beats good ol’ stickshift.

Sam Loo would say that Toyota 20 yr old 4AT will beat the shit outta any high tech Yankee gearboxes anytime.

Becos Ford, just like Korean cars, have no RV.

Seriously if this Ford Raptor can depreciate at a rate as claimed by Sam Loo, I seriously don’t mind buying a 6 mth old Raptor at $50k discount wor… hahaha
