The Mazda 5 MPV is set to stop production with no replacement planned, company officials have told Autocar UK. The publication reports that in Britain, five- and seven-seat SUVs like Nissan’s Qashqai and X-Trail have taken the limelight away from such MPVs.
Production is being wound down, with only hundreds finding homes annually, Autocar UK reports, adding that once the MX-5 lands in August, the Mazda 5 will be the only non-SkyActiv Mazda on sale in Blighty.
Of course, our Mazda 5 got SkyActiv-ed last year, but it remains an aged model. The demise of the CX-7 and apparent neglect of the big Mazda 8 are also signs of the Japanese carmaker’s increasing focus on smaller vehicles. Well, with the CX-5 and Mazda 2‘s suitability and prominence globally, can you really blame them?

My suggestion, DRB-HICOM go get all the tools and mould from Mazda for your Proton Exora Replacement Model.
P1 ego so big, doubt they do it.
elehhh..once P1 buat u all kutuk2 pulak nanti
Proton had a golden opportunity to get Volkswagen’s help to design or influence their future models. And yet they haughtily turned it down just because the new Persona was doing great at that time. I don’t think they’d want any ‘help’ from a smaller player.
If they did, u might see a Proton with DSG problem.
In retrospect, yes, I agree with you. If Proton had come under VW’s wing, they may achieve overnight success just because of it’s branding. But fast forward 6 months later, and the service centers nationwide will be overloaded with tens of thousands of cars with dead DSGs. All at the same time. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that Proton turned them down.
I also suspect if VW had signed off with Proton, they’ll use Proton as a convenient dumping ground for their millions of unwanted DQ200 or whatever rubbish gearboxes. But if all we had were their engines, designs and technology, wonderful.
this makes me cry :'(
What a shame for such nice looking MPV….
zz this one so nice also phased out without replacement.
so sad. I actually want to buy this MPV but budget not enuf now buy exora only T_T
Mazda 8 body can be the replacement for Biante.
it stop production in UK or in asian market or whole world?
lucky i have not make my decision yet .
stop production in uk or asia market or the world?
any news from the malaysia site?
how is the sales in their own land japan ?
In order not to be labelled as another Suzuki or Daihatsu, Mazda must keep and improve its large flagship models. Some of the medium size models can be phased out.
mazda, one of the pioneers of the mpv has decided to quit this mpv thing…while BMW decided to ruin their whole heritage to join it….the eventual winner will be the chery maxine
Mazda 5, Mazda 8 and Biante were in Japan for quite a number of years already. Biante is even longer! -only now it enters Malaysia. At least M5 had a surgery to follow its furai design concept and looks fresher. M8 looks outdated already. Maybe our market is still new to these MPVs but the same fate with Honda’s RC-Z and Insight, Mazda’s shift follows global trend i believe.
CX-7 no more, Mazda 5 no more, Mazda 8 not sure about its future….with so many big vehicles gone, will the CX-9 be the next one to go dodo bird?
all i can say is, don’t go down where honda had gone before – thinking it’s ok to phase out some of the more exciting models in the range, just to realize that the sales suffers greatly and have to re-introduce some models in the future, in order to make everyone excited again.
while honda may be able to do it, i am less sure if mazda can pull that off.
mazda and nissan used to make ridiculously fun overengineered cars but they werent bringing in any money. in fact, if you look at the current cars mazda is selling, there isn’t exactly any car you would call a performance car….and yet they make some of the best handling daily driving machines on sale
