Alongside the ES facelift, Auto Shanghai 2015 also sees the global debut of the new Lexus RX 200t. Adopting the latest 2.0 litre turbo unit found in the smaller NX, the RX 200t will effectively replace the outgoing RX 270 variant.
“Compared to the current-generation RX 270, you’ll notice that a major appeal point of the RX 200t is its ability to deliver seamless and continuous acceleration up to the mid- to high-speed range,” said RX chief engineer Takayuki Katsuda.
That’s to be expected, as the turbocharged, direct-injection 8AR-FTS mill makes 235 hp and 350 Nm of torque, compared to the RX 270’s 185 hp/252 Nm 2.7 litre four-cylinder engine. The same six-speed automatic gearbox is carried over, though, instead of the RX 350’s eight-speeder.
The fourth-generation Lexus RX was first shown at the 2015 New York International Auto Show earlier this month. Two variants were announced: RX 350 with 300 hp, and a hybrid RX 450h with a combined output of 300 hp. This latest Lexus RX 200t makes three. Which one would you like to see launched here first?
